Short, snappy headlines tell you what a newspaper article is all about. But sometimes they don’t quite work. Theses headlines were actually published. Can you figure out what they were about?
· Teachers strike idle kids
· Include your children when baking cookies
· Enraged cow injures farmer with axe
· Red tape holds up new bridge
· Eye drop off shelf
· Hospitals are sued by 7 foot doctors
· Chef throws his heart in help feeding needy
Some answers:
· Red tape holds up new bridge: there is permission to be obtained to build
· “Enraged cow” injures “farmer with axe” (cows can’t possibly hold axes!)
· Eye drop off shelf: “Eye drops” are not available on the shelf
· Hospitals are sued by 7 foot doctors (in America, they use a unit of measurement called a foot. A foot is 30cm.) So, the real meaning would me that seven doctors which specialize in feet are sueing. NOT: 210+cm doctors sue. Get it?
