OmZazep Tulku

My Tibetan meditation teacher,Lama Zazep Tulku Rinpoche is the teacher-in-residence at Gaden Choling Mahayana Meditation Center in Toronto. If you are you interested in his meditation instruction then read How to Meditate . If you are interested in the people and culture of Tibet you can to Canada Tibet Committee.

I have studied Tibetan Buddhism since 1982 when I first met Lama Zazep Tulku Rinpoche in Toronto. At first I was just interested in meditation, but then I became interested in Tibetan culture. I found out that the Chinese communists had destroyed 6,000 monasteries in Tibet, that the leader of the Tibetan people, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, was in exile in India, and that thousands of Tibetans fled from Tibet. I learned that many Tibetans today face serious human rights problems in Tibet, so I decided to write letters for Amnesty International to help release them, as they were usually monks or nuns, prisoners of conscience.

I just found this great link to Everything Tibetan that is on the Internet.

I have been to India and Nepal three times to study Tibetan Buddhism and Indian culture. Once our group was taped by the BBC's program "In the footsteps of..." when a film crew happened to be studying the footsteps of Buddha. We were doing pilgrimage to the holy sites of Shakyamuni Buddha. We went to Bodhagaya, where he was enlightened, Rajgir, where he gave the Heart Sutra, Sarnath where he gave the first teachings, Lumbini, where he was born, and Kushingigar, where he died.

There are many Tibetan refugees in India and they need help. They also need a voice in the United Nations. The Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1989 for his non-violent struggle to win freedom for his people in Tibet.

Tibet has many serious enviornmental problems too. The Chinese are using Tibet to dump uranium waste. There are many endangered species. Tibet is the source of 4 of the world's strongest river resources and is potentially the world's leader in hydro electricity. Vast forests in Tibet are being clear cut to feed the Chinese economy, the profits from which are not benefiting Tibetan people. I worked for Greenpeace Canada as a fund raiser for one year on these and other environmental issues.

I am working on a web page for White Tara, which has been one of the most inspirational of the Tibetan practices I have been given.

I have been teaching English, and studying Buddhism, in Korea for three years and you can visit my homepage:Teaching English in Korea
