SMALL CLASSES DURING TERM BREAKS

””

During winter break I taught two small classes of about fifteen each from 3 & 4, 5 & 6 and three individual students who were more advanced. The class time was one hour. During this time, students were exposed to more English than regular classes. I was very busy making photocopies from textbooks and translating songs. I had to do a lot of translating because I was usually alone. If the teacher on day duty was interested in English teaching, I received some assistance, which was appreciated. I liked teaching the small classes very much, thinking I could make a few students really shine. Two students from 4 and 5 received teachings from ”°Side by Side”±, which I believe was used by their parents at Hogwons. One student, who speaks perhaps the best English in the school if not the province, brought an American High School History textbook with him, so I could help teach him American language and social customs. That was more advanced than most of the teachers. Basically we just read through the book together. With ”°Side by Side”± I had them read to me every word on the page. After two weeks we had progressed through much of book two, and I think they were maintaining their level of comprehension. There might have been small classes this summer break but after my vacation, it appears like nothing was planned, so I am writing this.
