According to my contract, I teach from 9 ? 5, 25 hours of classes a week. So, thankfully, I have free time in the afternoons to do lesson planning, or to drink coffee and talk with whomever is available. Recently, I have been spending about two hours in my free afternoons talking with two teachers who really want to learn English. There’s a Chinese proverb about thinking roast duck will fly into your mouth if you just open it in the direction of the wind. That’s wishful thinking. So, the people who really want or need to learn will seek me, although my democratic felling is that I must seek them out. I use to drink and talk with teacher after school hours until I realized all this drinking was not good for me in the long run. They drink too much. After school instruction is possible but I am never going to ask a Korean teacher for money for private instruction, and that includes teachers from other elementary schools.
