PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

¡¡

According to my contract, I teach from 9 ? 5, 25 hours of classes a week. So, thankfully, I have free time in the afternoons to do lesson planning, or to drink coffee and talk with whomever is available. Recently, I have been spending about two hours in my free afternoons talking with two teachers who really want to learn English. There¡¯s a Chinese proverb about thinking roast duck will fly into your mouth if you just open it in the direction of the wind. That¡¯s wishful thinking. So, the people who really want or need to learn will seek me, although my democratic felling is that I must seek them out. I use to drink and talk with teacher after school hours until I realized all this drinking was not good for me in the long run. They drink too much. After school instruction is possible but I am never going to ask a Korean teacher for money for private instruction, and that includes teachers from other elementary schools.
