Featured Dilemma:
Making a read only file out of an AutoCAD drawing file
Justin,

I recently had to do some research on making PDF's myself. For thos of you who don't know what a PDF file it is short for
Portable Document File and supported by Adobe. If you want to make a pdf from a drawing file for free there is OttoPDF from www.MyndKryme.com. OttoPDF from what I found does not like arctext and tends to distort the drawing.
The best way I found make a PDF is to use adobe
distiller. Configure a printer in AutoCAD to be a
Postscript plotter. You can use export to make an EPS
also but, it there is no scale to the file. Plot the
drawing using the Postscript plotter configuration and
make an EPS file. Then use Distiller to convert the
EPS to a PDF. One thing to note is that your
background color in AutoCAD will be the same in the
PDF. If you want a white background in your PDF
configure AutoCAD to have a white background and
you'll have it.
DWF are read only files too. Making DWF is pretty striaght forward. If you don't know how yet I would suggest R.T.F.M. (read the manual).

Good Luck
Jim

A parting word:
Nothing is ever truely read only if it is on a computer. If I can see it I can copy it.
Jim,

Hey, I was looking for a way to convert dwg files to a read only format such as pdf or something.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Justin Neill
