| Jim used to attend each and every activity arranged by work, whether it be quiz nights, excess drinking, Christmas parties, or paintballing days. When he was single he enjoyed them just for the company, just to have an evening where he could talk to another human being. But now he had June, there was not an ounce of loneliness in him and no will whatsoever to go out in the evening if she wasn't with him. So it was entirely her decision that they were present at Luke and Kerrys reception for example, or this monstrosity that he was witnessing now. Sun Hill Karaoke, oh just what he needed on a Friday night. The problem was June was loving each and every minute of the show. She had managed to down a couple glasses of wine, and Gin and Tonic and Gina had brought her a brandy over as a peace offering about an hour ago by now theyd both had at least three that he could remember counting. But she was happy enough, laughing and joking with the rest of the ladies as Mickey Webb made a fool of himself up on stage. Gina got up rather unsteadily and made her way over to the bar for yet more top ups. Seizing the chance Jim shuffled closer to June as she leant forward to kiss him on the cheek. "This is brilliant," she grinned at him. Jim shook his head. "I really can't believe your enjoying this. Its sounds like a bunch of animals being tortured." "You gonna give us a tune, put these lot to shame?" June turned to him, her hand resting on his thigh. "I've heard you in the shower. You could certainly give this lot a run for their money." "Yeah right," Jim scoffed. "I don't see you putting your name on the list." "Well now that you come to mention it" "You haven't?" "That's for me to know." June grinned as Gina returned to the table. Kerry and Robbie were right behind Gina, both with bottles in hand and singing rather loudly to the tune currently playing. Gina handed June her glass and swung round to the girls. What are you two up to? Oh come on Maam, join in you must know the words. Robbie urged pulling her arm and singing. Upside down boy you turn me. Yea come on, have a dance with us. Kerry pulled her arm giggling. Alright, Gina reluctantly put her cigarette out. But only if our resident saint gets up. Oh no. June swallowed her drink. Im not much of a dancer. She could hear Jim sniggering behind her as Gina grabbed her hand. They werent alone on the dance floor by a long shot but they were the ones that could be heard the most. Dancing together like girls do, laughing and spilling their drinks and bumping together as they pointed at each other and sang. I said upside down youre turning me, youre giving love instinctively, around and around youre turning me I say to thee respectfully. Jim couldnt help but wonder if the only reason they held each others arms so tight was due to the copious amounts of alcohol in their veins. He leant back in his seat and watched June as she danced with her friends and colleagues. She started off looking oh so embarrassed blushing and hardly moving but soon the music (and maybe the alcohol) took her over and she started to enjoy herself grinning and laughing with the others, even whispering into Gina's ear at one point. He could pin point the exact moment that that had happened. He knew her so well. He chuckled as he observed her watching and waiting for the song to come to an end. Instead of heading back over to him she made her way to the Nick who was running the karaoke session. "Oh God please no," he thought to himself, and she wandered back over to him unsteadily and threw herself down on the seat next to him. "You're gonna regret this in the morning." He spoke into her ear, so as to be heard over the music. "Nah, I'll be fine," she grinned at him swigging from her glass. "A few painkillers and no hangover for me." "That wasn't exactly what I meant June." Jim muttered. "What was that?" "Nothing June... Don't worry about it." She rubbed his leg again and kissed his cheek before getting up and wandering over to the stage, Gina was already there, lighting up a fresh cigarette. Kerry and Robbie were parading on the stage, ready to be the next performers. What are they singing? June shouted above the noise. Who knows? Gina shrugged, pushing a bottle into Junes hand. Whats this? They got it for you. She pointed at the girls up on stage. Its pink. June mouthed wearily. I know may as well give it a try. Im too old for all this. She took a sip of the drink. Ahh forget your age, have some fun. June turned her head slightly, looking for Jim, he had moved, was sitting with Matt Boyden now no doubt moaning to him about the excessive noise yet secretly loving every second. Jim smiled broadly at her and she took another drink of the pink liquid. The music started and there was a screeching noise as Robbie dropped her mike then quickly picked it up again. June looked up at them, the stage looked awfully high up from down here. Sexy, everything about you so sexy, you dont even know what you got youre really hitting my spot. The men cheered as Kerry moved to the beat and sang along to the music. June couldnt help but laugh; both girls were so obviously drunk. She found she was bouncing along to the beat, and Gina had taken hold of her arm and was leading her somewhere. "Gina Where are you taking me?" "Erm nowhere June." Gina tightened her grip on her arm and led her up the steps to the stage. "Oh no," she laughed turning round as if to leave the stage. "Gina you didn't?" "Yes I did. Now come along" "But" "No buts" June sighed as Gina handed over a microphone and the music started up. She recognised the tune straight away, everybody knew it, she glanced across the stage at Gina, still with cigarette in mouth, she wasnt going to be much use. Luckily Kerry and Robbie were still on stage and doing their best Tina Turner impressions. HEY! Someone shouted, heckling her already. She hadnt even opened her mouth yet. She looked down at a grinning Jim. Youre gonna sing? Gina was mumbling the words to the song and Kerry was singing along with her, Robbie for some reason had slipped and was lying flat on her back on the stage, whether or not shed passed out was debatable. June knelt down next to Jim. People are watching. So do you want to do it? She smiled and got back up, moving over to the centre of the stage with Gina and joining in as they reached the chorus. Ohh youre the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone Ive ever met. Kerry linked her arm through Ginas and all three started moving in a line, Gina leading them like she was at one of her line dance classes. As they reached the end of the second chorus June looked down toward Jim, who was leaning on the edge of the stage and happily swaying to the music, getting crushed by people round him. She may have been making a fool of herself, she may have been completely out of tune but what the hell she was having fun. His attentive gaze gave her an idea, she moved away from the others singing the bridge and directing the words to him. Each time you leave me I start losing control, youre walking away with my heart and my soul. She reached down and grabbed his hand, leading him along to the steps and dragging him up on to the stage. I can feel you even when Im alone, oh baby, dont let go The saxophone was raw and sexy and although he felt like an idiot, up there in front of his colleagues and people he didnt know, he danced with her anyway. She ground her body against his in time with the saxophone and he had to hold her waist to get her to slow down. Then as the chorus started up again he realised most of the club was singing along and he spun her out and back in again catching her hips once more as she returned to face him. 'Ooh you're the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone I ever met.' Jim mouthed the words to June, looking sincerely into her eyes as they moved to the music. She laughed and leaned in closer as the room chorused along with them. "I can't believe I'm doing this," he whispered into her ear as her head came to rest on his shoulder. "Nor you for that matter." His hands slid round to the base of her spine as he held her close to him and they moved as one. She lifted her head from his shoulder and looked at him as she looped her arms around his neck. "You know you're right, as always, I think I might regret this when I sober up but right now I'm enjoying it it feels so good so right." She leant in and kissed him gently on the lips, just as the music came to an end and the room was filled with rapturous applause. Gina caught Jim's eye and he released June from his grip, taking hold of her hand and leading her to centre stage, where they both took a bow alongside Gina and Kerry who were supporting a rather bemused and dazed looking Robbie. June looked around the room, suddenly feeling slightly embarrassed and self-conscious as she looked at the sea of faces in front of her, realising just how many people had been watching them and were now smiling and applauding their performance. She stepped backwards, wobbling slightly, the alcohol still pounding though her veins and was grateful to feel Jim's hand at the small of her back, pushing her back forwards towards the crowd; encouraging her, supporting her and reassuring her he was there for her no matter what. She turned to him and smiled her thank you before applauding her fellow stage mates. *** Although hazy June quite happily carried on singing as she almost skipped out of the building. Past the couples she didnt know or care to as they made out on benches, past a very drunk Cathy throwing up something Jim noted for any future jokes she might throw his way. She wobbled ever so slightly as she proceeded to climb up onto one of the walls surrounding the grounds; Jim rushed forward and caught her arm. Careful He warned gently. She shook him away. Im fine see. She held her arms out and balanced on one leg to show him. Worrier. Youre drunk. Im tipsy. She smiled and moved further down the wall, away from the crowds near the entrance, into the darkness down the side of the building. June its cold. Dont be dull, come on. Ill give you a private showing" I dont think so, youve done enough tonight. She laughed and tripped as she did so. Jim darted forward to grab her arms; she looked up at his serious face and laughed even harder. Ow!! She moaned, giggling and rubbing her knee. Are you alright? I banged my knee She complained like a petulant child. Jim chuckled as he regarded June, sat on the cold floor. "It hurtsand look I've laddered my tights and I'm bleeding." He smiled as he bent down to her level, placing his hand on her thigh and leaning forward to kiss her knee. "All better? It should be now I've kissed it better." June looked up at him coyly. "Feels much better," she said lowering her head and looking up at him through her eyelashes. "'Specially where you've got that hand right now." Jim blushed removing his hand slowly and standing up. He held his hands out to her and grasped hers before slowly pulling her up to a standing position. June giggled as she reached an upright position, before the alcohol kicked in again and she stumbled sideways into the wall pulling Jim off balance with her. Her back hit the wall as Jim fell against her, his face so close to hers that she felt his hair brush gently against her forehead, his warm breath skimming her skin. "June" he spoke softly as she leant into him silencing him with a kiss. He pulled away and looked at her. "Enough of that," she giggled. "You're right it's too cold here. I wanna go home have a little fun." Her eyes twinkled as she wrapped her arm around his and purposefully strode off, dragging him along beside her. "Erm June" Jim stopped and spoke softly. "The car's *that* way." He gestured behind him. "Oops." She blushed before turning round completely and dragging him off in the other direction. * * June almost wrestled with Jim for the key as he tried to unlock the front door, tugging at his jacket and resting her chin on his shoulder. Hurry up will you! I need the loo. Alright, alright. He pushed the door open and she bounded past him, straight upstairs. He laughed to himself as he leisurely turned the hall lights on and removed his jacket, hanging it up and kicking his shoes under the phone table. Toto was already in front of him, stretching his body out leisurely and looking up at him expectantly. Alright come on, time for some food then out you go for an hour or so. He scooped the purring cat up and tickled his chin as he made his way into the kitchen. Coffee I think too, somebody needs it! He grinned as he heard a still singing June almost skip down the stairs and towards the kitchen. She grabbed his arm and spun around him as he struggled not to drop the cats dinner on his feet. Come on Jim Jim lets have a dance. Im not much of a dancer. Now dont you be so modest. "Modest? Me? You've got the wrong man. I know my talents and dancing isn't one of them?" "You weren't complaining up on stage earlier, and I rather enjoyed that I'll have you know." She traced a line down his chest with her forefinger, hooking it under his belt hook. "I know you did." He grinned back at her. "So dance with me now." She led him by his belt into the living room, leaving him only to turn on the radio, and fill the room with music. "So does this song take sir's fancy?" "Well there's something here that takes my fancy and its not the music." He grinned as he enveloped June in his arms, his hands slipping down to her buttocks. "There's plenty of time for that later," she smiled lifting his hands back to her waist. June Im telling you Im not at all a dancer! He maintained his reservations as he rested his chin on her shoulder and began to sway with her to the music. Youll be ok. Just doing it for me. Im hoping for some compensations for it too. Oh dont worry youll get it. You think they have pictures of tonights performance? Im counting on it! He laughed as she swatted his arm. Alright alright, for personal enjoyment of course. He pulled back from her as the song ended and a mans voice came on advertising windows. Time for me to get you a coffee I think try and sober you up a little. I am not drunk! She pronounced proudly as she fiddled with the radio whilst he went into the kitchen. Not drunk at all dear, just a little tipsy! He returned with two mugs and placed them on the coffee table, seating himself in the centre of the sofa and watching her parade around the room as she waited for another song to come on. "Yay!" June practically bounced with excitement. "I love this song, second time tonight." She tipped her head to one side and looked Jim straight in the eyes singing along to the radio. "Sexy, everything about you so sexy, you dont even know what you got youre really hitting my spot." Jim giggled at the sight in front of him. "If only Gina could see you now." "I'd rather she didnt given what I've got planned for you." She placed her hands on her blouse, still singing along, and slowly unbuttoned the top button, followed by the next, and the next Jim's eyes widened and he watched as her shirt was flung across the room. "June!" he chuckled. "Not drunk eh?!" Just feeling good about myself. She slid her hands down her body, closing her eyes as her fingers tickled the top of her trousers. Jim leant forward chewing on his lip and putting his mug down, suddenly interested in her dancing. Erm June, is this turning into a strip show? His question was answered when she turned her back to him and slowly slid her trousers down, kicking them to one side and almost hitting poor Toto as he attempted to settle by the fire. He quickly bolted from the room. You scared the cat. He laughed stretching his arms out as she spun round to face him again, a wicked smile lighting up her eyes. She was sauntering towards him, one hand resting on her hip, toying with the top of her knickers, twisting the flimsy material between her thumb and forefinger. She broke the mood by laughing though, and almost running the remaining distance between herself and Jim. She jumped on top of him, straddling his legs and then swaying as simultaneously the sofa toppled backwards and she screamed as Jim gripped her back holding her too him. They hit the floor with a thud, June lying flat on her back, Jim half on top of her. "Ooops. That wasn't exactly the plan." June giggled before trying to look serious. She looked up at Jim, his face was turned slightly away from her, a staid expression fixed upon it, though his shaking body gave away a totally different vibe and soon his infectious laughter filled the room, echoed by that of June "Hope we didnt wake the neighbours," he laughed. "I can just see them popping round to see if we're ok." "Don't say that." She paused for a second, placing her hand over his mouth and listened. "I think we got away with itNow where were we?" Her mouth pressed against his, hard and insistent, her hand rubbing over his chest reaching down for his buckle. June He held her wrist, gently, lifting her fingers from his trousers. Shouldnt we put the sofa right first. Hmm, but I want it now. She pouted tracing a fingertip down the side of his face, letting it run along his lips, knowing in time he would have to lick it. He took hold of both of her hands, lifting them up in front of his flushed face and kissing her fingers. Your hands get everywhere. He smiled, taking in every detail of her face, how blissfully happy she looked. Then swung his legs from where they were still hooked over the back of the sofa and lifted himself up. June followed his lead and stood watching as he re-positioned the sofa and placed the cushions back where they belonged. Then she slipped over the arm and lay flat on her back, her legs swinging over the edge as she listened to the slow tune on the radio. Underneath your clothes theres an endless story, theres the man I chose, theres my territory, and all the things I deserve for being such a good girl honey. One arm tracing up her bare leg she casually looked over at a bemused Jim, I think you should take your clothes off now dear. "And I think you're drunk dear." "What you don't want to take advantage of me?" She grinned sliding her hands to her shoulders and pushing her bra straps slowly down her arms. "Look me in the eye and tell me you don't want me right now." Jim blushed. "You can't can you?" June smiled. "I saw that glint in your eye earlier." "You're beautiful June." he said softly looking down at her. "Even when you're drunk and slightly cross eyed." He bit his lip to hide his laughter. "So what if I can see two of you. All the better." She tipped her head coyly. "Now come here and take advantage of me." I do love you. He moved towards the radio and switched it off. Even though Im just a little bit crazy? Even more for that. He turned off one of the lamps so it was almost like dusk in the room, and moved towards the sofa. Dropping down next to her and lifting her head to rest in his lap. He smoothed the hair on her face and she closed her eyes. The room was wonderfully warm and silent, Toto had even returned and settled in the chair. Jim glanced across at the clock, resting his head back and breathing deeply, contentedly. Almost two already. He murmured. June shuffled against him, one hand resting on his gently rubbing his skin. Her hands warm and smooth, he loved her hands, noted and remembered each freckle, the scent of the skin when shed applied fresh hand-cream. The way she would cup his face as she leaned in to kiss him first thing in the morning when he was sitting at the kitchen table drinking his coffee and she emerged down the stairs looking perfect ready for another day. The things he would always take comfort in. Are you sleeping do you want me to carry you to bed yet? She shook her head. Turned onto her side and draped an arm across his leg. I want you to make love to me. Jim smiled, Youre almost asleep. Tired out from your adventures this evening no doubt. "Adventure is one word for it," June said softly. "No doubt we'll be the talk of the station again." "Again!" Jim chuckled, lifting his hand to her head and continuing to stroke her hair softly. "We're starting to make a habit of this." "Least I won't have to take all the stick on my own this time, you're working tomorrow aren't you?" "Unfortunately." Jim sighed deeply. "Wish we could just stay here like this forever." "No you don't." June smiled. "You'd get cramp and start moaning at me." "I never moan." "No Jim, you're all sweetness and light." "You're not going to verbally abuse Gina in the canteen tomorrow are you?" Jim snorted. "Like you did last time you made us talk of the station." "I might" June rolled onto her back once more and opened one eye to peer at Jim. "Depends on what she has to say." "Well leave me out of it this time. I got enough stick from the lads last time." "Pats on the back more like," June snorted. "I've done your street cred round the station some good, admit it." "Never." Jim laughed, his hands snaking down to June's waist where he proceeded to tickle her. She giggled and squirmed at his touch. "I think it's more the other way round don't you?" Oh alright if you insist on it. She lifted herself up, pulling her legs from the edge of the couch and tucking them beneath her as she manoeuvred herself around to Jim. I suppose you have done some good things for me. She whispered very near to his face before leaning in and kissing him, very lightly, teasing. But She grabbed his hands, and held them still in front of her. You tickle me again and I may have to kill you. Jim laughed then bit down on his lip and groaned as she dropped a hand down to his groin, pleased with the result she quickly opened his trousers and pushed them down to his knees. Youre a fast worker Ms. Ackland. Ive spent far too many nights alone Mr. Carver. The alcohol was still hot in her veins and she felt a little dizzy as Jim lifted her into his lap, as she wrapped her legs around him and attempted to lift his t-shirt over his head. She clumsily struggled with it and eventually Jim took it off himself. Kissing her trembling fingers and whispering those words she longed to hear so badly. "So you do want me after all," she muttered into his ear as she roughly kissed the skin on the side of his neck, moving down to his shoulder. "I don't just want a drunken fumble on the sofa you know, what do you take me for?" He gasped again as she increased the pressure of her hand between his legs. "What you don't want to be my sex slave then?" She grinned at him, before he tilted his head up to her, silencing her with another kiss, his tongue probing against her lips before parting them and delving inside to meet hers. Pulling away he looked up at her, his eyes wide, his body shuddering at her every touch. "I love you June Ackland. And I'll be your sex slave any day." Any day, everyday, forever. She was finding it harder to talk now, struggling to control her breathing. Everything had slowed down until she barely knew where she was or what she was doing. Just aware of the delicious feeling tightening in her stomach and an aching need to have more of it. Jims mouth was on her breasts, one hand resting on her hips and lifting her closer to him, rubbing against the flimsy material of her knickers the other hand fumbling trying to take them off. She gained enough self-control to lift herself up and help him with the task. Then she held his face just the way he liked, kissed him, forced him to drift into the moment, let it take him away with it rather than force it. A hand on each side of her waist he closed his eyes, her forehead resting against his, as she lowered herself onto him. A slight gasp from his open mouth and a smile from June as she noted the look of innocence in his eyes, it could have been their first time all over again. But no, he knew her too well now, knew her body as she did his. A few seconds of stillness, she liked that part, just holding him inside of her. Drifting into the warmth and the scent of his heated skin, the complete joy that it was him and she loved him and it mattered. Every second with him mattered and it would last, it had to last. Closing her eyes her mouth found his in the darkness of her mind, they were moving together now and the rhythm was moving through her, flowing into her blood. Behind her eyes bright colours danced, the sound of his voice, so deep and familiar to her, sliding through her mind warming her not just physically but with the images he created. The moments that lasted the longest and meant the most. Slow, slow moments of love that would rest inside her even when they werent making love anymore. Come away with me in the night, come away with me and I will write you a song. And I wanna walk with you on a clouded day in fields where the yellow grass grows knee high. So wont you come away with me and well kiss on a mountain top. Come away with me and Ill never stop loving you. The friction from his skin was electric as he moved against her, his hands never still, exploring her body, knowing just how to touch her to make her yell out for more. She arched her back, throwing her head back away from him as she moved more urgently upon him. The blood was pumping through her veins now, the warm feeling in her stomach emanating and spreading through her body. Pure unadulterated pleasure. Jim's breathing was ragged as he moved with her body, faster and faster until he shuddered against her and stilled. She fell forward, kissing his forehead before resting her chin on his head, her own breathing slowly returning to normal. A faint sheen of sweat glistening on both of their bodies in the half-light of the living room. "Thank you," she gasped into his hair, planting another kiss onto his head. His breathing was now at a normal rate and he moved his head, looking up at June, his eyes meeting hers. She loved those eyes, they could tell so many tales, they really were the window to his soul; expressed his feelings so easily, even when he was trying to hide them. But right now there was no need to hide anything from her, she could see his total happiness, his devotion to her. Keeping her eyes locked to his, she lowered her head and kissed him once more. * * Jim was lying back on the sofa, half awake, just aware of Junes body lying squashed up next to him. They had a perfectly good bed upstairs and yet they still lay here, clothes removed completely now the blanket from the back of the sofa loosely covering them. June was kissing his shoulder, taking delight in teasing him; right now she didnt seem at all tired. She felt alive and had every intention of keeping Jim awake along with her. What time is it? He mumbled, trying to turn so she couldnt keep kissing him, trying to turn her onto her side and scoop her up against his body, so she would settle and sleep. Just gone 3, lets go outside. What the hell for? To see the stars, for the air, Im all stuffy in here. Jim opened one eye to glare at her. Please, just for a minute or so, for me. She kissed his forehead and got up from the sofa, stumbling a little and cursing a she hit her toe on the corner of the table. Bloody thing. Jim grinned and rubbed his eyes as he sat up. Come here let me look. She sat on the edge of the sofa and lifted her foot up so he could show interest by tickling her foot. She pulled back from him giggling. Thats not going to fix it. But it made you smile He sighed. Can we go to bed now? Yes, as soon as weve looked at the stars. She pulled on his arm, insistent. It will probably be cloudy you know. He complained as she handed him his trousers and put his t-shirt on herself. She waited for him to dress before taking his hand in hers, and leading him through to the patio doors and sliding it open. They both gasped as the cold air hit them. June stepped out on to the patio, dragging a reluctant Jim behind her. "Remind me why I'm doing this again," he shivered as she lifted his arm over her shoulder, snuggling up against his bare chest. "Because you love me silly." "That'd be it. Willing to risk pneumonia for the woman I love." "Besides, they're beautiful aren't they." She threw her head back to the sky. "It's so clear tonight. A perfect night for star gazing." "If it wasn't so bloody cold." "Stop being so miserable Jim," she laughed. "Just enjoy the moment, it's not something we do often, and it just feels right, standing here with you when it's so peaceful and beautiful out here." She moved to stand in front of him, her back pressing into his body as he rested both of his arms over her shoulders. "I hope the neighbours aren't looking. They'll think we've gone mad." "Stop worrying about what other people think, it's just me and you who matter." "And Toto, don't forget Toto." "Ok, me you and Toto." She smiled and pulled his arms round her, gripping onto them tightly. "Now can we go in?" Jim whined. June turned round in his arms and looked at smiling warmly. "We can now, but only because I love you too." * * June emerged from the bathroom drying her face and shivering around to her side of the bed, Jim already half asleep. Well hed dropped into bed as soon as theyd got upstairs, the quilt high up to his chin. She smiled and climbed into next to him. Feel better for that? My head hurts. He laughed. I thought it might start sooner or later. What have I done Jim? I cant even sing! He turned onto his back and reached a hand out for her. Oh nevermind, Robbie was that drunk she collapsed on stage and dont forget Cathy throwing up in the roses. True but still I cant sing. She sobbed burying her head next to him. I think I might need you to phone in sick for me tomorrow. Oh no madam, we will face it together. He lifted her chin and kissed her gently. Now a few hours sleep first ey June. Youve been almost too much too handle tonight. Ive cut my knee and stubbed my toe. And sung and danced and performed a strip-show for me and took me star gazing. No wonder Im exhausted. She giggled. Fun to feel young again. And happy fun to feel happy. He added with some finality gripping her hand. She rested against him, taking some comfort in his deep even breathing as he almost immediately fell to sleep. It had been an eventual night and one she would probably find very hard to forget for one reason or another. |
