"Stages of Cognitive Development"

While Piaget’s Stages of Cognitive Development may not apply to every child, it certainly applies to the majority of children.  Frankly, I prefer to hold to Piaget’s view of children as little “creators” who construct their own knowledge rather than the notion that they must be “spoon-fed” everything they need to know and then penalized/retained if they “can’t get it right”.  And yes, there will always be some students who will fall outside the “norm” because of giftedness or learning disabilities.  However, we will never know what our children are truly capable of accomplishing if we don’t allow them to try…and fail…and try again.
