We are a family of three, eagerly awaiting news of our daughter. We call her Maya, and pray for her and her birth parents each day, hoping for peace and health. We began the adoption process while living in the Bay Area -- but since then have relocated to the mountains east of San Diegowhere we've been able to nest and prepare for China. We have a wonderful three-year-old daughter, Olivia, who will be about the best big sister humanly possible. Sheri is a former park ranger who now does a bang-up job as a stay-at-home mother. Luke is blessed to be a full-time telecommuter with a flexible schedule that should come in handy over the next few months.

Why China? Partly because Sheri and Luke met in China, or while half in China. A little over ten years ago Luke was teaching in Wuhan and began, on the encouragement of a fellow teacher, a pen pal relationship with Sheri, who was living in California. Letters led to meeting a year and a
half later, and the meeting led to marriage. Marriage led us to parenthood, and parenthood has led us back where we started.
