Major Destructive Aspects of Hurricanes:
1. Direct effect of strong winds
2. Storm Surge- ocean water pushed by winds (abnormal rise of ocean level).
3. Rain Induced flooding
Hurricane Watch- Issued when hurricane conditions are expected in 24-36 hours.
Hurricane Warning- Issued when hurricane conditions are expected in 24 hours or less.
The worst storm surge usually occurs on the northern side of the hurricane since that is
where the winds are blowing towards shore since on the southern side they are blowing
away from shore.
