| CLOUD FORMATION: HOW CLOUDS FORM: 1. Warm air rises carrying water vapor with it. 2. Warm air parcel cools down to the dew point as it rises through the atmosphere. 3. When air temperature is equal to the dew point, the water vapor in the air parcel condenses into liquid cloud forms. Convection- cloud formation caused by the rising of warm air. Condensation Level- elevation above the surface where the cloud first forms. Condensation Level Formula: CL= 125 (T-DP) Other methods for clouds to form: 1. Orographic Uplift- air is forced up over mountains by wind, cools down to dewpoint, water vapor condenses and forms clouds. 2. Clouds form from fronts by having air forced up by a passing front, cooling down to the dewpoint having water vapor condense and form the cloud. 3. Convergence Fog- cloud that forms on the ground. |
