My
Writing Portfolio.
Here
are some of my pieces from English 328: Writing Style and Language. Throughout
the course, I wrote essays dealing with various technologies and issues
of style. Personally, I am a big fan of the Permeate with Permanence
and the Ancients and the GMOs essays. Also, one of the assignments
was to make a webpage, and guess what: you're looking at it.

The
Web-based Writing Portfolio Essay :
An assignment for Eng. 328 was to make a webpage and a writing portfolio.
This essay deals with the changes I made to my webpage throughout the semester
and how I used the various web style manuals found on the internet.
-
Permeate
with Permanence : I had an assignment to invent my own writing
technology and write an essay about the project. I wrote on my friend's
tummies with Marigolds. Big fun!
-
The Ancients and the GMOs : With this assignment, I had
to apply ancient rhetoric rules to a modern advertisement. I chose a Patagonia
ad about genetically modified organisms. An interesting combination.
-
Writing
Style and It's Audience : This assignment deals with the
ideology of writing style. I compared Stunk and White's The Elements
of Style and Joseph Williams's Style: Towards Clarity and Grace.
-
Collaborative
web project: My group
decided to crituque various publisher's websites.
One
of my favorite things to write about is Literature. Here are some
essays I have been working on this semester (Fall 2001).
-
Romeo
and Mercutio : This essay is a different take on Mercutio's
role in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
-
Hope
for Sylvia : A detailed look at the effects of social and
class standing on children in Toni Bambara's The Lesson.
I
also enjoy writing short stories and poems. Here are a few for your reading
pleasure.
