Memorial Day Weekend 2006, Washington D.C. - Page 2
Sunday was a nice lazy day for us - we made brunch with Katy and Alexis and later that evening had BBQ with some of Katy's friends and fellow Longhorns.

We woke up to the sound of Rolling Thunder - thousands of bikers parading through the city.  This is outside our hotel.
Rolling Thunder heading across the Key Bridge
Monday morning we headed to Arlington National Cemetery before meeting up with the girls.  This is James in Freedom Park with a replica of the statue that's on top of the capitol
Freedom Park - pieces from the Berlin Wall
remembering the Berlin Wall - left side
right side, with more stuff that really puts it into perspective.
before arriving in Arlington National Cemetery, we came upon the monument for the Marines - also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial.  Bigger and more impressive than I could have imagined
view of DC opposite the Netherlands Carillion.  On the left you can see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the Capitol with the Jefferson Memorial on the right
Julie at the base of the Netherlands Carillion
leaving Arlington National Cemetery we saw some Navy men and women marching
across the Potomac from Arlington is the Jefferson Memorial.
Turn around and James poses between the Washington Monument and the White House - barely visible over his right shoulder
James and President Jefferson
a better view of the stuff across the Tidal Basin.  I love how not only does Jefferson look to Washington, but also down to the White House.  Which means that whomever occupies the White House can look out the windows and have a direct view to Thomas Jefferson.
after Jefferson we headed back and had a great lunch before saying goodbye to Katy and Alexis...then back on the road to North Carolina.  Once again, another fantastic trip to our nation's capitol.  It's such a beautiful and historic city.
