A DRINK TO DEATH...
INTRODUCTION
Monica and Purita Jones, two elderly sisters, were suspected to have poisoned gentlemen boarders by serving them elderberry wine and then bury them in the cellar of their home. Police were able to locate the dead bodies and brought them to the laboratory. The doctor reported that the possible cause of death was arsenic poisoning. Your job is to confirm that indeed it was arsenic that killed the boarders!
THE TASK
Your group will create a crime scene investigation report showing the possible causes of the gentlemen's death. Each team member will take one of the four roles: chemist, doctor, historian and news reporter.
THE CHEMIST
Your job is to find basic information about the element arsenic. This information should include: atomic number, atomic mass, electron configuration, number of valence electron, location in the periodic table, variety of physical and chemical properties, occurence in nature and compunds it forms.The following web sites will help you in your investigation:
