Julie Burt: News!

Um, yeah, about that theatre company...

September 21, 2005

So the theatre company is no longer in existance. But thanks to all of you who donated your time and money to help us get it off the ground. Rest assured that Kate and I will be paying back the remaining debt ourselves (no thanks to Lara) and we've learned our lesson.

Introducing....

LANDSCAPE THEATRE ENSEMBLE!

My two lovely friends, Lara Tibble and Kate Garassino, and I are embarking on a new and exciting venture! I am the Executive Director, with Kate as our Business Manager and Lara as our guiding Artistic Director. The response we've been getting from fellow artists, businesspeople, family and friends has been overwhelming and we are thrilled that so many people believe in our vision and want to help out. See our mission statement and season description below!

Through dynamic theatrical productions, workshops and educational programs, Landscape Theatre Ensemble connects the relationship between the seasons and the human spirit.

Spring ~ Emerge

Workshops, staged readings and productions to develop and showcase new works
Plays and Musicals with themes of Personal Awakening, Youth and Coming of Age

Summer ~ Adventure

Theatre-Hikes Productions; taking audiences on Journeys of Adventure, Romance and Freedom. A Theatre-Hike combines the typically passive activity of watching a play or musical with the dynamic element of taking the audience on a journey from one location to the next for each scene along a one to three mile hiking route, creating an innovative new form of human-powered recreation.
Training workshops or educational programs that are active and health related in nature

Autumn ~ Prepare: A Celebration of Harvest Time

Theatre-Hikes Productions celebrating classic legends and folk tales of the season
Educational and Young Audience productions and interactive workshops for schools and scouting groups
Actor Training workshops, specifically geared toward audition and monologue preparation

Winter ~ Reflect

Thought provoking holiday shows that are not typically seen and new adaptations of holiday classics
Darker, more dramatic indoor productions, with a focus on plays and musicals that require a deeper level of introspection

The Parade Has Passed By

July 28, 2004

Thanks to everyone who made it out to see PARADE at the Bailiwick!
Your support and praise of the show, even with that now infamous helmet-wig, made it a huge success.
With our extension to the Mercury Theater I was invited to move up into the role of Iola Stover!

Life & Stuff

May 21, 2004

Well, friends, my time at Great Lakes Camps has come to an end. But with that end comes a wonderful beginning! I will soon be taking over the irreverent Molly Faithe Gasbarinni's position at Pivot Point International as Corporate Receptionist. Yay! This hopefully will be the start of a wonderful and lucrative future! Thanks to all that helped me out in my job search.

Parade, the show I'm in at the Bailiwick Repertory, is extending at the Mercury Theater on Southport and Waveland after our Bailiwick closing on May 29, 2004. We will be at the Mercury until people stop buying tickets, so come on down!

BAILIWICK, TIMELINE LEAD IN JEFF NOMINATIONS

May 3, 2004

By Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times

Bailiwick Repertory's production of "Dr. Sex," a new (and possibly Broadway-bound) musical about Dr. Alfred Kinsey, the godfather of sex research, and TimeLine Theatre's production of "Hannah and Martin," a new play (recently mounted Off-Broadway) about the relationship between philosophers Hannah Arendt and Martin Heidegger, were among the shows that helped put those two theaters at the top of the Jeff Citations nominations list for the season running April 1, 2003-March 31, 2004.

Bailiwick scored a total of 17 nominations, including those for such shows as "Dr. Sex," "Pinafore!" and "Sex: A Cardinal Deposed," while TimeLine racked up 15 nominations for "Hannah," "The Lion in Winter" and "Paragon Springs."

The Citations honor outstanding achievement in professional productions of Chicago-area theaters not operating under union contracts. In a strong season for the these small but bold companies, Circle Theatre and the Griffin Theatre Company also made impressive showings with nine nominations apiece.

The awards presentation, which is open to the public, will be held on June 7 at Park West, 322 W. Armitage, with actor-director David Cromer and Famous Door Artistic Director Marc Grapey serving as masters of ceremonies. A reception with light buffet supper and cash bar precedes the ceremony from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets (general seating only) are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Call (847) 724-8468 for more information.
