Julie's Web Page
Word Processing Document
Hi, I am Julie (Mills) Lucas.  All of my information refers to me as Julie Mills but I got married this summer and my new name is Julie Lucas.  I am currently finishing up my masters in Adult Education with and emphasis in Human Resources and Organizational Development.  I have an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education but wanted to have options in case teaching did not work out.

This web page has been created for a class that I am taking that is helping me in both fields. Some of my projects have been more geared to adult training's and others are geared to elementary levels.

Taking this online course has been a very interesting experience for me.  I have never experience taking a class online before and it has been more difficult than I ever imagined.  I was a full time student last year and almost completed all of my course work.  I moved to Augusta after I got married and believed that the online course would be perfect.  I enjoyed learning about computers and had a lot of room to improve.  I never imagined that I would have to push myself as much as I have had too to stay on track.  Being a newly wed, in a new town, with a new job does not leave a lot of room for other things but I have had to make myself keep school a priority since I am so close to finishing.  I have learned not only about computers but I have learned about myself.
I have been working with Word for a very long time and when I saw that we had to do this project, my first thought was easy.  I decided to do the WBTs on MS Word and was shocked by all the things that I did not know.  I learned how to do new things along with learning how to simplify what I already knew.  I never would have imagined all the things that I could have accomplished by just using MS Word.

My word document that I used for this project was something that I had to do for work. I decided not to reinvent the wheel since I already had to do this for a golf tournament that I was in charge of putting together.  This is my program for all of the golfers.
Power Point Presentation
For my power point presentation, I did the slides for a group project that I was doing for a class.  For our project we had to do a training on diversity for police chiefs.   Although, the power point presentation was prepared for a classroom training  the slides can easily be put on the Web for a resource for the class participants.

By taking on this project for our group I had to be creative and professional.  I was not only doing it for myself but for others to be graded on and I felt a lot of responsibility for the success of it.   I pushed myself even harder since I had the added pressures of having a group to please.
Cognitive Tool Assignment
For this assignment, I prepared a MS Excel spreadsheet tabulating the totals and averages of the Can-a-thon.  I am not in a classroom setting right now so I prepared hypothetically.  I did it with a fourth grade math class in mind.

I have never worked with MS Access or MS Excel so I had to teach myself a lot of information.  I believe that having this on-line course has helped me to explore much more and not take the short way out of situations.  I used the help feature in MS and not only learned MS Excel but learned how to use the help function.
Open-Ended Project
WebQuest Project
This assignment was much more difficult for me to accomplish but I learned so much.  A WebQuest project in a classroom can supplement a lesson and make it very interesting and fun for the students.  Along with giving the children the oppurtunity to explore on the Internet.

For this project, I had a third grade class research the state of georgia.  They were challenged to make a poster to showcase the state of Georgia to other third graders from across the country.  The poster included history and fun facts.  This was a very enjoyable way to teach Georgia History.
Adding technology to a lesson can not only supplement the child's learning but it also helps the teacher.  Using all types of technology strengthens the lesson and allows the children to explore the computer.  For second graders it is difficult, being that they only can do certain things on the computer. You would be surprised at what they can do but the task must be very simplistic.

The project was designed for a second grade class.  The lessons were on measurement.  After doing the project I thought of even more ways to implement technology into the unit.  Graphs what have been a lot of fun and would have given the children the opportunity to explore even more things on the computer.

There is so much to do and so many ways to be creative when adding technology to a lesson. Time becomes the major issue. There is just not enough hours in the day to do everything that I want to do.
