Evolution being classified as a theory leads students to believe that it is just an idea that can be chosen to be accepted or not.
Objectives:

Students will examine their ideas about scientific
theories, particularly the theory of evolution.

Students will gather information about scientific
theories to compare with their own ideas.
Respond to the following questions in your journal.
1. What does the
word “theory” mean in your daily life?
2. What does the
word “theory” mean in science? Is it the
same as daily life?
3. Name a scientific
theory besides evolution. (Name more
than one if you can)
4. Using your prior
knowledge, define “evolution.”
5. Give two examples
that support the theory of evolution. (Include up to five if you can)

2. Complete the notetaker as you watch.
