San Carlos (SQL) to Salinas (SNS)

Here are some pictures of our trip to Salinas airport. There was a bit of wind that day ... 15 knot cross wind on take-off but it got better once we climbed up to about 3500 feet.

Start of our trip. Just after take-off the veiw to the North/East. We're going to turn and head West.
The coast south of Half Moon Bay
More clouds on the coast on our way down. It was pretty cloudy, broken, but rain clouds were to our East.
Highway One, pretty quiet.
Hard to make out - but that is Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
This is a nice picture of the Elkhorn Slough next to Moss Landing and the Stacks. See any elkhorn?
Ahhh the stacks. Nothing pouring out of them today ... usually they are going strong. We were fairly low, and it was a spectacular sight! I grew up with "the stacks" always a'smokin' up the coast from Carmel alerting us to the winds and surf conditions. I spent some cold, early mornings there with my surfer friends, even surfed there once myself!
Getting close to that airport! Salinas (SNS) is just below. It is a nice, long runway, fairly big class D airport. Nice tower folks too.
More pictures of the mostly perpendicular runways.
More airport shots.
Heading back, looking south/west out over Monterey Bay. These are shadows on the water from the clouds.
Here is a shot looking down at Aptos near that outdoor beer garden, and music stage. We park our car and ride our mountain bikes up the fire road into the state park (Demolition Trails?). Anyway, I was pretty excited to catch this from the air and we followed the road a bit to see where we rode up (the top).
Here is a surpise. We were in the hills west of Saratoga and found this "hidden" rock/cement quarry. This is a HUGE hole dug into the side of this hill/mountain. It is really massive, unbelieveable, as it is pretty hidden from the city folks. I guess that is better than having to look at the eye-sore.
Almost to the end of our journey. Here we are looking towards San Francisco.
Getting closer to our San Carlos Airport where we began our trip!
Turning to about at 2-mile final.
And just about to land. Watch that crosswind! Some crabbing will be required today!
