Car Drivers vs. Motorcyclists: Which Are More at Fault?

All of the tables cited below are from California's 2000 Annual Report of Fatal and Injury Motor Vehicle Traffic Collisions:

According to TABLE 7J FATAL AND INJURY MOTORCYCLE COLLISIONS BY COUNTY 1996 - 2000:

         There were 276 fatal motorcycle collisions in 2000;

            and

         There were 7,180 injury motorcycle collisions in 2000.

According to TABLE 7K FATAL COLLISIONS WHERE MOTORCYCLE DRIVER WAS AT FAULT BY AGE BY PRIMARY COLLISION FACTOR - 2000:

         192 motorcycle drivers were at fault in fatal motorcycle collisions.

According to TABLE 7L INJURY COLLISIONS WHERE MOTORCYCLE DRIVER WAS AT FAULT BY AGE BY PRIMARY COLLISION FACTOR - 2000:

         3,890 motorcycle drivers were at fault in injury motorcycle collisions.

We conclude:

         69.57% of fatal motorcycle collisions were motorcyclists' fault.

         54.18% of injury motorcycle collisions were motorcyclists' fault.

         54.75% of all motorcycle collisions were motorcyclists' fault.
