A Valentine

This poem came about as the result of an idea I had to defend the merits of poetry as an art form.  I decided, after seeing Good Will Hunting (which I highly recommend), that with all of the images and scenes and stories I had read about in poetry, many of the things in life that I'd never directly experienced I at least had some way of knowing, even if it was through someone else's eyes.  So I started writing what amounts to a valentine, a little love letter if you will, to some of my favorite poems, a few of which are very apparent in the poem.  As far as I know, the list includes Kublai Khan, Ozymandias, I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General, a general nod to Shakespeare, The Raven, The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, El Dorado, A Dream Deferred, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Lochinvar, Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening, and one that I'm not sure of the title but I believe is by Housman about apple picking or something like that.  I'll look into it.  That's basically it, this was a fairly simple one, nothing too deep, nothing too twisted, just a valentine to poetry and art that perhaps is long overdue.
