I've never been apple picking
Or ridden through strawberry fields
I've never seen Egypt or
Paris, or Xanadu, though London, yes
Heartache I know all about
But not the indescribable joys of love
And parenthood and blissful satisfaction
I'm very well acquainted too with matters mathematical
And with the lives of my parents
And my friends and myself
But I know nothing of Verona, or Denmark
The Venetian canals, the African jungles
The cities of the Orient, the Swiss Alps,
I've never seen a raven, or known if I have
Never met an albatross or
Searched for a city of gold
I never knew the roaring twenties
And had a dream deferred
I doubt I've known many caged birds that sang
Sure I know the places I've seen
But what little I've seen could barely
Fill the pages of a magazine
I've never been on epic adventures
Through Scottish highlands
Or even just gone for a ride
Through a snowy wood one evening
But I never had to
For it's all already been done for me
And I am always grateful.
