This poem started off as an idea I had from one of my all time favorite movies, Immortal Beloved, starring Gary Oldman as Beethoven. In it, they propose most of the great maestro's ultimate destituion was the result of his heart ache over the failure of a love relationship with someone known only to the world as his "immortal beloved," a note to whom was found among his things after his death and of which the opening lines I have subsequently borrowed. Being that Beethoven had a profound effect on my younger life, the movie touched me tremendously, and I always wanted to write something using those very poetic opening lines but avoiding the rest which covered basically the reason why he would be late in meeting her at a hotel they had arranged to meet at. I wanted to extend those lines' feelings, and have it cover something different. So I tried that, and here it is. Pretty much I wanted to convey a sense of something greater than just an apology, something that shows how deep the bond can be between two people and how much they can rely upon each other in ways unfathomable perhaps even to themselves. As for the title. Well, it means to sing in Latin. Go figure it out.
