Situation in Life:
I graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia twice with a BS in Engineering specializing in Computer Engineering (2006) and a BS in Biology (2008). I'm currently working as a Junior Software Engineer for Mercer Engineering Research Center. I'm also a Signal Corps First Lieutenant, serving as a Platoon Leader for C Co., 48th BSTB, Georgia Army National Guard. We're getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan sometime this summer (2009) and won't return until Spring 2010. At that point I'm hoping to go to the S6 course, make Captain, and go on to the Signal Captain's Career Course at Fort Gordon, GA. |

Realistic Goals:
I intend to get a Ph.D or an MD/Ph.D specializing in organ production research. My goal is to develop effective methods of producing organs that will not be rejected by their recipients. Stem cell research, organ cloning, xenotransplantation, and recent advances in tissue engineering are all viable research paths. My end goal is to develop a fully effective method of accomplishing SRS for the transgendered. To this end, I am taking additional classes to prepare to the MCAT. I completed A&P I last semester, but will not be able to take II until I return. I will be studying for the test while in Afghanistan and will take A&P II and Microbiology upon my return. I'm hoping to get into a research-oriented MD/Ph.D program starting Fall 2011. I'll be 31. If that doesn't work out, I'll return to active duty Army and stay until I make Colonel or so. Maybe I'll go AMEDD and become a doctor for the Army. |
