.....an
art perfected.....
Nestled in
the mountains of Southwestern Poland lies the village
of Szklarska Poręba, the home of Julia glassworks. Since the
middle of the fourteen century, it has earned the distinction of
being known as the 'cradle' of Polish glass making.
Blessed with
an abundance of the necessary raw materials,
including a clear, fresh mountain spring, the area developed an
assemblage of gifted artisans - the ,,Julia family''. Here, world
famous artist, such as Rade, Lessing, Haertel, Maes, and currently
Aleksander and Regina Puchala created new, original designs in
highest quality leaded crystal.
These
accomplishments quickly attracted the eyes of Europe and
works were exhibited in London, Paris and Wien. By the
beginning of the 20th century, Crystal pieces were being exported
to overseas markets including the United States. Thus, a legacy of
world-class originality and quality was created, which exists to this day.
The
illustrations shown here depict the gentle surroundings
enjoyed by the Julia facilities. The depiction of activities is a classic
rendering of the busy processes demanded by serious leaded
crystal glass making. While the Julia glassworks has been
modernized to meet the demands of an ever-increasing
marketplace, it has never lost touch with the reputation which
brought it frame.
