I have lived in Columbus since September, 1997 when I became the Associate Principal Horn of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. I am a native of Cannon Falls, MN, and I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Horn from the University of Wisonsin - Madison in 1994. Upon graduation, I became a member of the New World Symphony in Miami, FL, where I played for 3 years before joining the CSO. I am a resident of the Victorian Village neighborhood of Columbus, and in my free time I enjoy spending time with Kirk, practicing my horn, teaching horn lessons privately, computing (check out Julia Rose's Horn Page!), and reading.
I was born in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA called Beaver Falls. My family moved to Orange, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland) when I was about 10 which is when I developed an interest in computer programming. I served on board an aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz (CVN-68) as an aviation ordinanceman in the US Navy for 2 years afterwards pursuing a career in computers. Today, I am a Senior Programmer for Ross Laboratories (division of Abbott Laboratories) which makes adult medical nutritional products such as Ensure and Glucerna, pediatric products such as Similac, Isomil and Consumer Products such as Clear Eyes and Selsun Blue. I have been an employee with Ross for over 5 years. I enjoy spending time with Julia. Meeting her is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I enjoy anything and everything which has to do with computers, and I am an avid lover of the arts, especially music.
Julia and Kirk originally met on an internet dating service called Matchmaker in early September, 1999 . They carried on conversation with each other (cautiously) through this service for several weeks. They decided to meet in person at one of Julia's concerts with the Columbus Symphony and on September 17, 1999 Kirk met Julia in front of the Ohio Theater following a wonderful performance in which Rostropovich played the Dvorak Cello Concerto in B minor.
On Wednesday March 2, 2000 Kirk proposed to Julia shortly after which she accepted.
