| Travel log number five: Days 53-74 | ||||
| Dear all, Another Monday morning and after an extended absence (thanks for all the concerned emails - not!) we're back from the beaches of Malaysia browner, leaner (or is it just that brown fat looks better than white fat?)and with sand in every orifice you could imagine, and more importantly back in the land of cheap internet. So, what have we been up to since we last wrote... Cameron Highlands: famous for its tea plantations and jungle walks. Had a chilled few days sampling the "very finest" local tea (which after 5 mins of brewing still tasted like hot water - but we still oohed and aahed appropriately!), trekking through the jungle and visiting other local places of interest including a rose garden, a butterfly park, a strawberry farm (?) and a few bee hives (?!). Penang: not that impressed so after 24 hours we decided to go to... Langkawi: island paradise - or it would have been if we hadn't ended up in a cockroach infested hovel on one of the less nice beaches on the island (and we paid for 3 nights upfront - school boy error!). However, hired a car (cos none of the motorbike helmets would fit on Jules' head) and enjoyed some of the nicer beaches and the facilities of some of the nicer resorts - it's amazing what you can get away with if you keep away from the dreadlocked ethnic traveller look! Penang: back for a day for a truly Malaysian experience: McDonald's for lunch, a cinema double bill and Pizza Hut for dinner!...oh and we bought 23 more DVDs! Perhentian Islands: real island paradise - although to get there it appears we accidentally got into the back of a frozen food delivery truck rather than a coach - it was that cold!! Planned to spend 5 days there but stayed for 10. Beautiful beaches, lovely weather, great diving and snorkelling, good food, nice people (including a girl born in 1984!!)... and no cockroaches - just 7 foot monitor lizards! Arrived in Thailand yesterday and are planning to monsoon dodge up the west coast. Currently in Krabi and heading to Rai Leh beach this afternoon before Ko Phi Phi in a few days depending on the weather. Hope the weather is still nice in the UK. Keep the emails coming. Love Tessa & Jules P.S. John - hope the stag night was good although can't believe you were trying to phone your wife to be...ON YOUR STAG NIGHT!! Leon - can't believe you let that happen! Christine - hope your wedding was lovely! Dad (M) - hope the knee is bending well! Claz - keep a poncho aside for me...any photos of them?!! Tim - got a job yet? |
