Over the sea to Skye was an experience. The ferry has been replaced by a bridge and I am sure that it has the highest toll anywhere in the world. In 1999 it was forty one pounds 20p English for a bus and five pounds 10p for a car. I am glad I don't have to commute because those prices are each way and there is no reduction for residents.
Another night in the highlands and then off to Edinburgh, travelling south to Pitlochry where you will find the smallest whisky distillery in Scotland. Be sure to taste their 10 year old single malt. If for no other reason I will have to go back there again for a taste test. Liquid gold is the only way it can be described. Lucky for me most of the other tourists were suffering from the flu and had taken flu tablets so they couldn't taste the whisky. That was one time I was glad I am allergic to flu tablets because one sip and my chest and sinuses were totally clear.

The village where we stayed on Skye. Our hotel is the second white place from the left, next to the little brown church.

Gaskmore, our last home in the highlands gave us such magnificent views... heather covered mountains behind us and a glorious view of the most magnificent green pastures greeted us in the morning. The highlands have such a rugged beauty that I will definitely spend more time there when I return.

Skye is spectacular - rugged and beautiful. Only a small island but jam packed with the most wonderful scenery. A walk in the hills is necessary so that you can get the total feel of Skye. Sunset was at 9.30pm and our hotel was another British Heritage listed hotel called the Kings Arms, a lovely whitewashed building with its original facade. I am so impressed that everything has been kept as it was and not ruined by modernisation.
The highlands are magnificent. We crossed to the Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland and continued along the shore of Loch Ness (didn't see any monsters) to Culloden Moor where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated in 1746.

Culloden where we were greated by Scots in the costume of the time.
Typical highland country.
What a view to awaken to.
