Where else to start an English holiday than London. That thriving, bustling, ancient city with buildings hundreds of years old mingling with ones built only yesterday.
Such a diverse range of cultures, fabulous shopping and of course, the landmarks.
I remember as a child having a schoolbook in which there was a photo of the Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. How exciting when we left the train at Waterloo Station after our crossing from France to jump into a taxi and drive that same route... the picture that had been indelibly in my mind for forty odd years coming to life before my eyes. Such magnificence was quite breathtaking.
Shopping in London is an experience in itself. Just a couple of blocks from our hotel was Oxford Street and it took us 2 days to fully explore the shops there before we commenced our tour.
Greenwich where we saw the Prime Meridian was something else and looking down onto the park below we could see where they were building the Millennium Dome.
I love this sun dial on the wall
at Greenwich.

Leeds Castle was our next stop and such magnificence has to be seen to be believed. The gardens were spectacular, as was the aviary. We didn't realise how far we had walked just looking at everything. Jules had to get a photo of herself at her first castle while the rest of us collapsed in one of the many acres of gardens.
Leaving Leeds we drove through beautiful countryside with funny little pointed barns with hatches at the top to store and dry hops used in beer manufacture.
Brighton was as I had expected and we went for a walk on the famous Pier, bringing back memories of old movies I had seen in my youth.
Just a tiny section of the gardens at Leeds.
Brighton Pier as everyone recognises.
