Jukebox with Charlie Johnston
Charlie was born, raised and went to school in the village of Newmill, near Keith.  He served his apprenticeship as a Slater/Roughcaster before settling in Keith when he married.

He played football for Newmill, Islavale and the Dynamoes before progressing into the Highland League with Keith as a centre forward.  After his playing days finished, Charlie became a highly respected referee in North East Junior football.  He travelled throughout the UK as an Industrial Cladder/Sheeter until an industrial accident prevented him from working.

Charlie was perhaps best known as a Drummer/Singer with the popular group Summertyme, playing at venues throughout the North East of Scotland.  He was a member of other groups and often was a stand-in drummer for other bands.

It is his love of music which has resulted in Charlie becoming a Radio Presenter - with programmes such as "People I meet", "Music Quiz" and "Sounds Friendly".  He was one of the original members of the Keith Hospital Radio Committee and has been involved with KCR from the start.

Charlie likes all kinds of music, from the 40s to the 90s, Folk, Jazz, Scottish and Country.  His love of The Beatles is no secret and he has a great love for music of the 50s.  A typical play list would read as follows:

Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich - Okay (1967)
Elton John - Something about the way you look tonight (1997)
Kay Starr - Side by side (1953)
Cliff Richard - We don't talk anymore (1979)
Celine Dion - Think twice (1994)
Tremeloes - My little lady (1968)
