The Phone Call
written by Brandi
Justin knew that JC, his best friend, was having a rough time. JC was becoming moody and depressed. He wouldnt speak with anyone but Justin. He would ignore his other friends and block out what they say. He had constant arguments with his mom and dad. He also had violent confrontations with his brother and sister at times. They just didnt know how to help him.

Eventually his friends quit speaking to JC. He had become too hard to handle. They didnt want to hang out with someone who would bring everyone down. When they tried to help and talk to him, they were met with angry accusations or were completely ignored.

Justin was the only one who could reach him. The one who could help if JC wanted it. Sure Justin would like to have been playing basketball with some friends or hanging at the arcade, but he wouldnt leave JC alone by himself. So he spent most of his time inside with JC trying to figure out an answer to this problem.

Then Justins parents gave him the news that they were moving. It was just across town, but they wouldnt be neighbors any longer. Justin would be away and their time spent together would be far less than was before.

Justin was playing basketball with his new neighbors when he thought of JC. He wondered how he was doing and what hes been up to. When he went home for supper, his mother told him that JC had called. So after he ate his supper, he went upstairs to return his call.

He reached for his phone by the bed and dialed his number. It rang and rang, no answer. He heard the beep from JCs answering machine and left a message. Hey JC, its me Justin. Like you didnt know that right? Anyway I was just returning your call but it doesnt seem like your home at the moment, so call me back when you return. Bye.

An hour later, JC returned his call.

Hello?

Justin, I have to tell you something. When you called awhile ago, I was in my bathroom with a razor to my wrist. I was actually going to kill myself. Then I heard your voice from my room.

Justin sat wide-eyed on his bed, his deep breaths echoing in his ears.

I realized I was loved. Your voice reminded me of that. I am so lucky to have your love. I wouldnt be here if it wasnt for you. Thank you so much for loving me Justin. Im going to get help Justin, cause I love you too!

JC hung up the phone before Justin could reply. Justin put the phone on the hook and rushed to JCs house. Together they sat on the couch and cried.
