Chapter 7 - Best Friend's Confessions
During their lunch break, Britney stopped in, knowing she had to talk to Justin, and figuring that she might as well get it over with as soon as possible.

All the guys, except Wade, looked surprised to see her.  She smiled at them all before making eye contact with Justin.  Hey, Justin, can I talk to you for a minute?  Outside? she asked.

Sure, Justin agreed, putting down the sandwich he was eating, giving Joey a confused look, and then following Britney out of the room.

She led him outside the building and sat down on the grass next to a large maple tree.  I have something I need to tell you, Justin, she confessed, grabbing a hold of his hand.

Ok, Justin agreed, not knowing what else to say.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but I dont think there is any easy way to say this, Britney started, rubbing her finger along Justins palm.

Ok, Justin replied, wanting to break the silence.  Please just tell me Brit.

I cant be with you any more, Justin, I cant be your girlfriend anymore, she told him, watching his face for a reaction.

Justin knew Britney expected him to be shocked, so he did his best to look it.  Why not? he managed to ask.

Our relationship isnt working.  We just werent meant to be together.  Im sorry, Justin, but I just cant do this anymore, Britney apologized, hoping Justin wouldnt hate her.  She really didnt want to hurt him.  She loved him, but as a friend now.

Its ok, Britney, really.  I know what you mean.  We just dont have the same chemistry that we used to.  Im sure youll be much happier with Wade, Justin told her before he realized what he was saying.

Wait, how do you know about Wade? she asked, obviously surprised.

He, uh, he told me about spending the night there last night, Justin informed her.  He saw the horrified look on her face.  No, he didnt give me any details, but he did say that he thought you were amazing.  Hes much better for you than I am, Brit, I dont deserve you.

Thank you so much, Justin, your approval means so much.  I hope we can still be friends, Britney suggested with a small smile.

*Best* friends, Justin replied, pulling her close for a hug.  He couldnt believe his luck.  Shed broken up with him.  Now no one would get hurt.  It was turning out quite well.  But he knew he needed to tell her about Joey.  He felt so guilty that shed confessed something and he hadnt told her the truth about his relationship with Joey.

Are you ok, Justin? she asked, sensing his nervousness.

Yeah, but I need to tell you something too, Justin told her, not able to look her in the eyes.

What is it? she asked curiously.

Please dont hate me, Justin pleaded.  He noticed the confused look on her face so he continued.  I fell in love with someone else while we were dating, he confessed.

You did? she asked, surprised.  Who?

Joey, Justin admitted, glad that it was finally off of his back.

So thats why you were spending so much time with him? she asked.

Justin just nodded.

And youre both gay? she questioned.

Im gay, Joeys bi, Justin told her.

Oh, she said, and then was silent.

Im really sorry I didnt tell you, Brit.  I do care about you, and I didnt want to hurt you.

Its ok.  It kind of hurts that you felt like you couldnt tell me, but hey, we all make mistakes, right? she replied, smiling at Justin.

So youre not mad? Justin asked.

No, she assured him, Im not mad.

Youre a great friend, you know that right? Justin asked her.

Youre *best* friend, right J? she teased.

Right, Justin said simply.  Oh!  I forgot to tell you.  Josh and Lance hooked up!

No way! Britney exclaimed.  Well its about time!

Thats what I said, Justin replied, laughing with Britney.  He looked over and saw Joey looking out the widow at him.  Justin smiled up at his loving boyfriend and gave him a thumbs-up sign.  Joey mouthed I love you before turning back around.

Justin couldnt believe that his plan had actually worked, but now his life was complete.  He knew that with friends and a boyfriend like he had, he could do anything.
