| Chapter 12 |
| After the photo shoot, the guys had one more radio interview to go to before they had the rest of the afternoon off. Needless to say, they were all eager to have some time to themselves. Chris bounced in his seat, looking out the car window and watching the people and trees whiz by. Lance was driving, a feat that took a *lot* of persuading for Lonnie to go for it, and Justin was in the passenger's seat fiddling with the radio. The other three were in the back of the car. JC was in the middle seat with Chris on his left and Joey on his right. JC and Joey were huddled close together, their heads bent and almost touching, as they read and giggled over one of Joey's Superman comics. Lance rolled his eyes when he saw Dre, who was driving the car behind them, speed up until he was almost tailgating, and Lonnie, who was driving the car in front of him, slow down until Lance could barely see the car's rear tires. "Nice to know they trust us so much," he grumbled, changing lanes when Lonnie did. He looked at Justin beside him and rolled his eyes again. "Justin, will you pick *one* station please? You're giving me a headache." No matter, Lance had to smile at the look of utter concentration on Justin's face, and he tried very hard to ignore the way Justin's pink tongue was caught between his teeth. Without warning, Lance's seat lunged forward slightly and he gasped as his seat belt got extremely tight around his chest. "Chris!" he yelled as best as he could. "Knock it the fuck off! You're strangling me!" The seat belt was released and he let out a deep breath, trying to concentrate on the road in front of him as colors flashed in front of his eyes. Justin turned in his seat to glare at Chris, who was sitting back and looking guilty. "Sorry Lance," came the quiet reply, a blush forming on Chris's cheeks. Justin turned back around and put a caring hand on Lance's shoulder. "You okay?" he asked, concern evident in his voice. Lance took a deep breath. He smiled and patted the hand, not wanting to let it go. "I'm fine," he replied. Justin heard nothing. All he could focus on was Lance's warm hand on top of his. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" Chris was chanting and bouncing again, but noticeably steering clear of Lance's seat. Lance blocked everything but the road and Justin out of his mind, deciding to be bold. He took Justin's hand off of his shoulder and laid it on his thigh, lacing their fingers together. He didn't look over for a few seconds, but when he did, Justin was staring at their fingers. Slowly, his eyes raised to meet Lance's, and Lance felt his throat close up. People said *his* eyes were expressive, but they were nothing compared to the way Justin was looking at him now. He could see everything from hope to fear to nervousness in those blue oceans. Most of all, he saw love. Justin's heart floated when Lance smiled at him, nothing but pure love shining in his eyes. 'Oh Lance,' he thought. 'We will be together someday. And if I have anything to say about it, someday will be very soon.' ~*~ The radio interview went just as every other one that day had gone; planned and with few surprises. The guys were crammed into a small room with a guy that didn't at all fit the voice coming out of his mouth. He laughed and joked with the guys, asked about the new album, and took a few calls from fans. The guys responded with a flash of white teeth, a soft giggle, and the occasional "we love our fans" comment that kept the girls screaming. When it was over, they each shook the announcer's hand and made a hasty retreat to the car. "I swear," Joey said with a sigh, climbing into the van and sitting down heavily, "if I get that damn 'boxers or briefs' question one more time I'm gonna scream." JC laughed as he sat beside him. "I'm with you," he said. As soon as the doors were closed, Lance took off, momentarily leaving their bodyguards in the dust. "Geez Lansten, in a hurry much?" asked Chris. Lance grinned and shrugged innocently. "I thought we could all do something together," he explained. "We never get to go out much, let alone together. You guys up for it?" "Sure," said Justin, willing to do anything with Lance, "but where are we gonna go?" "Bowling!" "The zoo!" "The circus!" "How about a nice museum?" Every turned to stare at JC. "What?" he asked innocently. "You are so boring, C," said Chris with a roll of his eyes. JC slouched in his seat and pouted, everyone else laughing at him. Joey giggled and put his arm around JC's shoulders. "I, for one, would love to go to a museum," he offered. JC looked up at Joey with hopeful eyes. "Really?" Joey sighed at the look on JC's face, falling for him harder than ever. "Yeah," he whispered. JC grinned and hugged Joey, turning to stick his tongue out at the others. "See," he said proudly, "Joey doesn't think I'm boring. He loves me!" Joey froze, momentarily freaking out before he realized JC was laughing and hadn't meant anything by it. 'Oh JC,' he thought. 'If you only knew.' |
