| All He Needs |
| Lance faked a smile as he made his way around the room, shaking hands with all of the bigwig music executives and thanking them for a good meeting. "Thanks for coming ... thanks again ... Happy New Year," Lance smiled, his face not showing how tired he was. 'God I want to go home,' he thought. Lance sighed as he saw Ron, the Free Lance comic, heading toward him. The man had gray hair and smiling eyes, and he told the same jokes every year. Lance sighed and smiled tiredly, going over Ron's New Year's Eve routine in his head. 'Hey there Lance! Happy New Year's Eve! It's always a fun time of year, isn't it? Especially the people. Take my wife ... please! Haha. Oh, and Lance? I've decided to leave Free Lance, but only until next year! Haha, just kidding boy. You gotta keep up! ' "Haha," Lance mumbled. He smiled at Ron and shook his hand. Ron grinned and patted Lance on the back. "Hey there Lance!" he said loudly, his voice low and raspy. "Happy New Year's Eve! It's always a fun time of year, isn't it? Especially the people. Take my wife .. please!" Ron burst into laughter, his voice booming loudly. Lance smiled politely and chuckled halfheartedly. "Yeah, that's a good one, Ron," he said, mentally rolling his eyes. "Oh, and Lance?" he asked seriously, throwing his arm of Lance's shoulders. "I've decided to leave Free Lance," Ron looked down sadly and then grinned, "but only until next year!" Lance mouthed the words along with Ron, laughing and smiling in all the right places. Ron chuckled and slapped Lance on the back, his large hand causing Lance to stumble forward slightly. "Just kidding boy. You've got to keep up!" Lance laughed, waving at Ron as he walked away. He sighed, his smile faltering when Ron left. Lance picked up his briefcase and nearly ran to the door before... "Lance!" Lance stopped and sighed, his head dropping in defeat. He turned around and smiled at his secretary, a motherly woman with a full figure and a warm smile. "Hey Margie," he said. "Oh sweetie," she said in a concerned voice. "You look like shit." Lance laughed, giving her a true smile for the first time all day. "You always had a way with words, Margie," he said, smiling. "Happy New Year's Eve." Margie smiled at him and rubbed his back. "You too, Lance." She shoved a plate of cookies in his arms and kissed his cheek. "Take these home for you and Joshua," she whispered into his ear. Lance's smile grew, just thinking about his lover making his day brighter. Margie was the only person who knew about him and JC, and he knew he could trust her. "Thanks Margie," he whispered back, smiling at her once more and heading for the door. ~*~ Lance sighed with relief as he stepped into his and JC's house, letting the warmth comfort him as the delicious smell of dinner invaded his senses. He dropped his briefcase by the door and hung his coat up, making sure to take his shoes off so JC wouldn't yell at him. "Lance? Is that you?" Lance felt himself smiling just at the sound of JC's voice. His crappie day was forgotten all together as JC stepped out of the kitchen, his face brightening at the sight of Lance. "Baby!" he smiled. "You're home!" Lance stood by the door, his eyes soaking in JC's beauty like it would be the last time they saw each other. He swallowed and sighed, a small smile on his face. "Boy are you a sight for sore eyes," he whispered, walking into the room more. JC grinned and ran the few extra feet between him and Lance, closing the distance as he practically leaped into Lance's arms. Lance laughed and hugged him tightly, kissing JC's neck and inhaling his cologne. JC pulled back and kissed Lance quickly on the lips, taking in his drooping eyes and tired smile. "Long day?" he asked knowingly. Lance nodded. "Yeah, but it's all over with," he sighed happily. He remembered the plate of cookies, and handed them to JC. "Margie made these for us." JC smiled. "She's a sweetheart," he said, leading Lance into the kitchen. "Yeah, she's my sanity at work," sighed Lance, coming up behind JC and wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's slim waist. "How was the studio? Did you and Justin get anything done?" "Yeah, actually we did," said JC, leaning back into Lance's arms. "We found some great songs for the next album, and we even thought of some ideas for the next leg of our tour." Lance smiled. "That's..." he sniffed the air, and gave JC an incredulous look. "Baby? Are-are *you* cooking?" JC laughed and went to the oven, checking on their dinner. "Hardly," he said when he stood up. "I ordered out to that new fancy restaurant in town, and put the food in the oven to keep it warm." Lance nodded and left the room to change, putting a hand over his heart and breathing a sigh of relief when JC couldn't see him. He took the stairs two at a time, tugging his tie loose as he walked into his and JC's bedroom. He stripped out of his suit and changed into a large sweatshirt and sweatpants. JC laughed when Lance returned to the kitchen, dressed similarly himself. "I guess we won't be attending Justin's big New Year's Eve bash tonight, will we?" Lance grinned and bumped JC's hip with his own. "What are you talking about, babe? I'm all dressed up for the ball!" ~*~ Lance sighed in contentment, getting out of his chair and grabbing JC's hand. Dinner had been delicious, and all he wanted to do was sit out on the balcony with JC and hold him until the new year. Lance sat down on a chair, pulling JC onto his lap. They snuggled up together and turned towards town. From the balcony, they could just Orlando's capital building and all of the people crammed downtown. "The fireworks should be starting soon," whispered JC. Lance nodded, his chin on top of JC's head and JC's head on his chest. He stared at the clock. "Ten seconds to midnight," he said. They could hear all of the people chanting, and they followed along. "Ten ... nine ... eight ... seven ... six ... five ... four ... three ... two ... one!" Their lips met at the end of 'one,' ringing in the new year the best way they knew how. They pulled apart and smiled softly, the fireworks going off in the sky as they stared at each other. "Happy New Year Lance," whispered JC. "I hope you get everything you want." "Happy New Year Josh," Lance whispered, kissing JC sweetly. "As long as I have you, it's all I'll ever need." |
