- Only one of Shakespeare's comedies is set in England. Name the play. Can you believe that an English writer set 13 plays in Italy, but only one comedy in his own country! (Of course, Shakespeare's history plays and a few of his tragedies take place in England.) The Merry Wives of Windsor
- In Shakespeare's time, plays were most often performed in outdoor theatres. Performances took place during the day so that the stage would be illuminated by natural light.
- The people who stood around the stage were called groundlings. They paid one penny (or approximately $1.66 today) to enter the theatre. A seat in a balcony cost about a penny more.
- Henry Clay and Emily Jordan Folger founded the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC to share their collection of Shakespeare's plays and memorabilia with the nation. The library was dedicated on Shakespeare��s 368th birthday, April 23rd,1932. The Folgers loved the library so much that their ashes are buried in the library's Reading Room.
