SECONDARY CHARACTERS

Cheryl Blossom

What can we say about Cheryl Blossom? Well, she's sexy, sassy, rich and sometimes classy, and she is also Betty and Veronica's worst nightmare, as she seems to attract Archie's attention with a simple shaking of the hips. This sultry vixen was banned in 1984 after parents complained that she was too sexy for a PG rated cartoon, but when she was brought back into the mainstream a decade later, her popularity rose along with the heart rates of most men in Riverdale upon one glance at this redheaded bombshell. She also has a twin brother, Jason, and prior to moving to Riverdale, she attended the snooty Pembrooke Academy.

Moose Mason

Moose is your typical dumb jock...at least that's what we thought when we were first introduced to him. Physically, he's big, brawny, and the star quarterback of the Riverdale High football team. Emotionally, he's generally nice, but has a VERY SHORT FUSE...which is displayed when Reggie or any living-breathing male goes after his sweetie, Midge Klump. As far as intelligence goes, we all thought Moose was just plain dumb after he says the infamous "D-UH!" after each sentence. But, as we later discovered, Moose turns out to by dyslexic, so that explains why he is slower than his peers. Nevertheless, Moose Mason adds fun to Riverdale High School.

Midge Klump

Midge Klump is an average girl, who just happens to be dating Moose Mason, the not-so-average guy. Basically, all that Midge does is try to control Moose's temper, even if it means threatening Moose by means of dating his arch-rival, Reggie Mantle. Midge also has had issues with divorce and dieting in Archie stories as well.

Ethel Muggs

One thing you can say about Ethel...she definitely has a unique figure...unfortunately, not a lot of guys go for the tall, lanky, bucktoothed look. It is only Ethel's wonderful personality that makes her a very beautiful woman...she is good with kids, she helps carry groceries for the elderly, and in one tale, she even took a Merman named Bobby to the junior prom! Of course, she spends the rest of her time pursuing the ever elusive, Jughead Jones, as she has had a crush on him for several years now.

Dilton Doiley

Dilton Doiley is what you call the "brains of the operation", as he is Riverdale's resident mad scientist who has invented everything under the sun including invisible paint, a truth telling machine, and even a robot! Of course, usually, his inventions fail, but he can claim that he has more patents than Thomas Edison at least. He also gets depressed because of his height, which is below everyone else's, and he gets angry when he gets less than a 97 on an exam. Nevertheless, this bespectacled teen wonder has a rightful place in the comics.

Chuck Clayton

Chuck Clayton is definitely one of the most artistic characters in Riverdale. His great grandfather penned the very first cartoon book, and it becomes obvious through his sketches and drawings that Chuck has inherited that talent. Aside from cartooning, he is also a very gifted athlete, and has been known to help Archie out with problems every so often. He also dates Nancy, but sometimes, she takes a back seat to Chuck's cartooning. In fact, in Riverdale High #5, Chuck creates his own cartoon strip called Amimal Krackers. His father is Coach Clayton.

Nancy Harris

Nancy Harris is Chuck Clayton's girlfriend, and her hobbies include cheerleading, hanging out with Betty and Veronica, and of course, going on dates. Of course, Nancy sometimes gets a little ticked off when Chuck ditches her to do cartooning.

Sabrina Spellman

Sabrina Spellman isn't your typical teenager. She also happens to be a witch! Introduced in the 1960's, Sabrina became a staple in Archie Comics along with her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, her cousin Ambrose, and her cat, Salem, and her adventures range from dating boyfriend Harvey, to performing good deeds with her witchcraft much to the chagrin of Head Witch, Della. Sabrina left Riverdale for the spookier locale of Gravestone Heights in the early 1990's, but arguably, she will always be remembered in Riverdale, even contributing to the spooky "House of Riverdale" storyline in 1995, and netting a live-action TV series in 1996, starring Melissa Joan Hart.

Josie and the Pussycats
While Josie and her friends were a staple of Archie comics since the early 1960's, the Pussycats did not exist until December 1969 when Valerie replaced departing characters, Pepper, Sock and Albert and joined Josie and Melody to form the band, Josie and The Pussycats. Also included in the series was Alan M, Josie's boyfriend, as well as Alex Cabot III and his sister, Alexandra, who managed the band. Josie's popularity was resurfaced again in the year 2000, with the release of the Josie and the Pussycats movie, starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid.

Pop Tate
Pop Tate opened up the infamous Chocklit Shoppe for teenagers back when the only teens around were Fred Andrews, Hal Cooper and Waldo Weatherbee...now, it's the place where Archie and the gang hang out after classes are done at Riverdale High, and is the focal point for many of the stories in Archie comics.

Frankie Valdez
One of the few Hispanic characters introduced in the 1970's, Frankie Valdez was brought in, along with his girlfriend, Maria. The one thing that many will notice about Frankie Valdez is that he is very obsessed with his hair, like Reggie sometimes is, and if he notices one hair out of place or GAWSP...on the floor, he will obsess about it for days on end.

Maria Rodriguez
Maria is Frankie's girlfriend, and for a short time in the 1970's, her father, Ramon, was the vice-principal of Riverdale High before Patton Howitzer took his place. Maria often got into battles with Chuck Clayton over Ramon's rule of the school.

Jinx Malloy
They say that 13 is his lucky number and that he enjoys walking under ladders, but to anyone who knows Jinx Malloy, only two words seem to describe him...BAD LUCK! Anybody who crosses this guy's path is in danger of getting hit by a stray bicycle, getting a bucket of paint dropped on you, or having an expensive business suit get ripped and torn by a thorn bush!

Cricket O'Dell

Cricket O'Dell isn't a typical redheaded gal with an Irish name. She has a talent that nobody else seems to have...she can smell money! In fact, she could tell you how much money you have in your pants pocket to the NEAREST cent! This keen "cents" of smell has been helpful in retrieving stolen jewels and misplaced hundred dollar bills.
