Thomas Avant
Thomas Avant, b. 1671, Rouen, Normandy, France; d. 31 Oct 1757, Surry Co., VA; m. in America to Margaret Elizabeth Gooch, daughter of Claiborne Gooch. Thomas Avant left France in 1698, during the French Huguenot Migration. He traveled first to England then on to America. During the Colonial Wars, Thomas Avent served as a Colonel. He was a large land owner. From 1728 to 17551 he served as the Justice of the Peace of Surry County, Virginia. Thomas & Margaret Elizabeth (Gooch) Avant had six (6) children :1. John, b.
