THE POWER OF T.V.
The other day while I was working on a story, the electric went off. I'm not to keen on working with a computer so I had not saved my work and I knew that I had lost everything that I had written. So I went into the dinning room and sat down at the table be-moaning my own loss, when my five-year old granddaughter came stomping out of her bedroom. "Granny", she wailed, "My t.v. quit working!"
That put a smile back on my face, as I told her that my computer had quit working also. I tried to explain about the electric going off, but she wanted more, she then turned to her Papa and asked him to fix it. Her Papa being the tease that he is told her that the lights were out all over the world and even the sun had gone out. Just as I was about to chastise him for such a yarn, Chelsey took control of the situation. "Oh no it's not Papa", she explained, "the earth is spinning, and when the sun is on this side it's day and when it's on the other side it's night time."
I was just thunder struck! "Where did you learn that?" I asked my little blond cutie. "Oh, I heard it on the t.v., Granny." AH, the power of the television was brought home to me, loud and clear.
If my little one can pick up useful information, what more are the young minds of this world picking up on this thing? It's staggering to think what a whole generation of little ones learned while having the t.v. as a baby sitter day after day!
The ones in power would have you believe that this instrument of technology is harmless, that it will not do any damage to our young. But I for one firmly believe that the minds of our little ones are being filled with so much garbage, that there is little room left for the right kind of teaching!
We as adults need to take control of the remote, watch what our kids watch, and let the powers that be know that we are watching them, and what they are feeding our childrens minds!
There are few programs that we allow Chelsey to watch on the major networks, most of her t.v. time is spent on PBS or Discovery, and maybe the Animal Planet. It is really hard to find something to watch that doesnt have off color language somewhere in the script. Even the cartoon channel has gotten to where you have to screen what the little ones hear and see.
