PENNY POOCH AND THE GREAT ESCAPE
Hi, I'm Penny Pooch and I have a story to tell you today.
One day, as I played in my fenced yard, I discovered that I had a bone to bury. So I started to dig my hole close to my fence. I was having so much fun digging that I just kept right on! When I got done, I could see under my fence! I could even crawl under the fence, OH...I know that I'm not allowed out of my yard unless I have a leash on, but......!
I could just go look on the other side. What harm could there be in that? I would just look at the neighbors houses and come right back to my yard.
And that is what I started to do; I first went down our street and looked at all of our neighbors' houses. When I got to the corner, I turned and went down a strange street. I think that I'm supposed to look both ways before I cross the street. I have never crossed the street by myself, before. Gosh, it sure is scarey!
I walked and walked. And I sniffed and sniffed; everything was so strange to me!! Everywhere I looked, there was a stranger! I needed help to get home! But every one I met was a stranger; and I'm
not allowed to speak to strangers!
I couldn't even find my friend "Booty", there was no one that I knew on this street. I felt so alone and scared.
So, I sat down and howled, after all that's what any lost dog would do. I howled so loud and long that a policeman came to see what was the matter with me! He patted my head and read the tags on my collar. He was so kind to me that I knew that I could trust him. He put me into his police car and drove me home, to my safe fenced yard! Oh, joy!!
At home, my people were glad to see me. They thanked the nice policeman, and told him that I would not dig any more holes to escape.
I really got a scolding that time, and I have to hide my bones in my doghouse now, no more digging!
And, I really don't want to escape again! I want to stay in my very own fenced yard, and have my very own people around me!
