MY SWEET LADY

My husband and I are the proud owners of three cocker spaniels and we are just a little bit over protective of them. There are even times when we wonder if our little ones aren't the smartest animals around.
Take the case of "Lady's" first experience of swimming. My husband, being very safety minded, put "Lady's" life preserver on and took her to the edge of the pond and sat her down, all the while explaining to her that he would be right there if she needed him.
With a worried look on his face, Roger let our baby jump into the water. As I stood watching from the bank, I whispered to my chocolate puppy,"Prozac", "don't worry, Daddy will save "Lady". But I couldn't help but worry about the mother duck and her little ones that were swimming in the same pond.
Which one of us would have to dive in and save the baby ducks from an over friendly puppy? In my heart of hearts, I felt sure that Roger would be the one to jump in and be the hero; after all he was the man in charge, wasn't he?
Soon I was caught up in the wonder of my cute little girl swimming for all she was worth, and to my amazement, she was swimming with a purpose! "Lady" had swam so that she was the last in line and had become one with the duck family!
How beautiful she looked with her cocker spaniel ears floating out from her little head, and her neon yellow life jacket blending in with the soft yellow down of the ducklings little bodies!
Even If I have to say so myself, our girl was pretty smart to take swimming lessons from an expert!
