I went to see a sweet lady
Her name was Early Dawn
Her name reminded me of mist
O'er a pond at early morn
When the whole world & everything
Would come alive and birds did sing
When I went to see this lady
Who layed upon her bed
With blankets piled so high
You could barely see her head.
I'd hold her hands & caress her brow
She'd open her eye and say
"I'm dying now."
I'd try to tell her it's all right to go
And leave behind the ones you know
For many years through thick and thin
God's been with you,
He's with you again.
He's opened doors in Heaven above
Where you can live in eternal love.
I'd hum a song, a hymn or two
Hoping this would help
see her through.
She'd release my hand,
I'd kiss her brow
And pray God was with her now.
That He would put his hand in hers
That He could help allay her fears.
So rest sweet lady, you're on your way
With God across the Milky Way.
