Monoprints and monotypes involve different processes.  The terms are oftened used as synonyms, or mistaken for each other.  A monotype is a single print pulled from a plexiglass or metal plate on which ink has been applied.  The image is transferred to paper by hand rubbing or by use of a press.  A perfect second impression cannot be made.  A monoprint begins with a repeatable image on the plate, such as an etched image on a plate but it is then hand manipulated to form a one of a kind print.
