Founder of Judo

History
Judo was founded in 1882 by Kano Jigoro, a Japanese
Jujitsu expert, as a way to create a purely defensive form
of jujitsu. Kano modified many of the holds he considered
too dangerous to be used in sport.
Kano's methods, which placed more of an emphasis on
physical fitness and mental discipline than on self-defense,
depend greatly upon the skill of using an opponent's weight
and strength against him. Such a technique makes it possible
for a physically inferior individual to overcome a
physically superior one.
