George Ackley inherited land from his father Alexander, located in Lockwood, NY, and for a time was engaged in farming.
Around the year of 1900, George and Minnie moved to Cortland, Cortland Co., NY, where George found employment at the
Wickwire Brothers Company, at Wickwire, George did general woodworking and bulding. When he left employment at
Wickwire, he was then able to fullfill his life long dream, he was a master woodworker, and crafted pieces, cabinetry on an
individual basis, as well as custom pieces per order.
His grandest creation was a model of a Sailing Ship, detailed down to the smallest detail and for many years it was displayed
in a store window in downtown Cortland.
George handcrafted at least two fine violins, numerous ships in a bottle, as well as inlaid Chess Boards. Many of these
finely crafted items have been passed down several generations.
George Ackley was featured in a Cortland Newspaper article that shows the Sail Ship and details his fullfilment of a life-
long dream.
George Ackley in later life had complications from Diabetus, which led to the amputation of a leg. This, as he says in the
newspaper article, is what held him close and near his workbench thereafter, creating the things that he imagined and held
in mind since his youth and then this time came, allowing him to fulfill his dreams.
George Ackley died on 10 February 1938, at Cortland, NY. Buried: Ackley Family Plot, Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Minnie Belle Barden was born on 30 March 1871, probably at Milan, Bradford Co.,PA. the fourth child born to
Ira Barden and Louisa Ella Tanner. Ira and Louisa made their home at Barton, NY and were the parents of nine children,
two of whom were twins, Ella and Elwin.
Minnie remained close to her family all of her life, especially so to her sister Ella, who lived not far from her in Cortland.
Another sister, Eva and her husband lived in Cortland for a time, but relocated to Auburn, NY.
Minnie Barden Ackley died on 28 February 1957 at Cortland, NY. Buried: Ackley Family Plot, Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Minnie's daughter Flora, my Grandmother died on the very same date, six years later, 28 Feb 1963

Clara Belle Ackley, born 28 May 1892 in Tioga Co., NY. Married in Cortland to Daniel Earl Wilcox, year unknown.
The couple lived in Cortland, NY, after several years of marriage, Clara left Cortland, briefly kept in touch with her
family. Contact suddenly stopped and it is unknown there after what happened to her.
FLORA MAE ACKLEY, born 10 May 1895 in Lockwood, NY. Married in 1915 at Trumansburg, Tompkins Co. NY.
Spouse: ANTHONY ABRAHAM MULLALLY.
Flora died on 28 February 1963 at Peoria, Peoria Co., IL, Buried: Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria, IL
Mabel Louisa Ackley, born 12 October 1898, died 20 February 1899.
Frances Elizabeth Ackley, born 22 March 1909 at Cortland, NY. Married on 30 Sept 1929 at Cortland, NY.
Spouse: Reginald Vining. Not too long after her marriage, Frances and Reg moved to Norwich, Chenango Co., NY.
Norwich was their family home for rest of their lives. They had one son, Douglas (Bob) Vining. Living.
Frances died in August 1997 at Norwich, NY. Buried: Mount Hope Cemetery, Norwich, NY.
Reg Vining died some years before at Rochester, NY and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Norwich, NY.
George William Ackley (Buster) born 18 Nov 1912 at Cortland, NY. Married Lina Pease, they had one son and divorced.
He made his home with his mother Minnie until his accidental death on the job at Wickwire Company, 25 Aug 1956.
