OBTAINING CERTIFICATION:
After successfully completing the nurse aide course, students register to take the state certification test at one of several Michigan testing sites. (Kalamazoo County residents take the test at Kellogg Community College.) The testing includes a performance test (clinical skills) and a knowledge test. Both tests are administered the same day; however the performance of clinical skills portion of the test is given first and must be passed in order to take the knowledge portion of the test. Students must pass both portions of the test in order to be a Certified Nurse Aide.
Students have twelve months from their date of course completion to successfully pass the tests. Students who are employed at nursing homes have four months from their date of hire to successfully complete both portions of the test.
