The color pink is traditionally associated with hospitality in Rajput culture. As a result many of the buildings in the old city are painted pink. Jaipur is located on a plain at the foot of rocky, hilly terrain. Many of the hilltops are surmounted by fortresses. The old city has a series of bazaars, the best of which might be Johare Bazaar, which is the jewellers' market.Other bazaar's focus on perfume,saris,lacquerware and carvings.
In the city you can visit the Palace of the Winds one of Jaipur's most famous landmarks. In the old city, the City Palace and Chandra Mahal in the palace offer views of the grounds and the city.There is a fine museum in the former apartments of the Maharaja which displays,art,carpets,enamelware and old weapons.
Eleven Km outside Jaipur is the Amber Fort, It is situated on a hill top beside a lake. The ramparts offer wonderful views of the local area. You can choose to walk up the hill, ride in a jeep of you can ride an elephant up to the fort. It is all up to you!
