Ricky Martin tells USA TODAY. ''Growing up, I listened to rock. I think the first album I bought was a David Bowie album, and the second was from the band Journey. In those days, Latin sounds were not hip for my generation.'' It was Martin's mother who persuaded him to delve into his roots, taking Martin and his siblings to see Latin icons like Tito Puente and Celia Cruz in concert. ''Mom got sick of hearing rock in the house,'' Martin figures. ''But in Latin America, we're very influenced by Europe and the United States.'' (AFP). 11/22/99 |

Unauthorized videotapes of an upcoming Ricky Martin special on CBS are turning up on eBay Internet auctions, and the culprits could be members of the press, according to Variety. As is customary, CBS sent TV critics screening copies of Ricky Martin: One Night Only, which airs Friday. When CBS personnel discovered the video for sale, they bid $305 to win one of the tapes. The network has not identified the seller, but is considering legal action. As of November 21,1999, all offers had been removed from eBay. |
