The reason we are all here today is that our ancestors managed to survive. They did this by developing the technology that brought them from small bands of hunters and gatherers to surplus farmers. They used their surplus to trade, and their spare time to create art, music and literature. Their societies developed laws and rules for living that developed into social codes and complex forms of government. Our ancestors invented ways to conquer their environment and each other. They nurtured themselves spiritually through organized religion and prepared their children for life through formal and informal education.
