CHAPTER 1457

March 30, 2008

Office of Senator Kit Bond

Kansas City Office
911 Main St., Suite 2224
Kansas City, MO 64105

Dear Senator Bond:

As one of your constituents and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal employees Association (NARFE), I want to thank you on behalf of myself and our Chapter members, of which we number 19 members, for cosponsoring legislation beneficial to our continued retirement benefits. An example of this was the "Premium Conversion" legislation last year, and any legislation that in the past has helped current and former public servants and senior citizens in Missouri to retain their retirement benefits.

Along with my colleagues, I urge you to consider supporting Senate Bill ____, sponsored by Senator Warner, the "Premium Conversion Bill," which would allow retired public servants, including retired military, to enjoy the same benefits as current federal employees and most private sector retirees. It would permit me and my colleagues to pay our health insurance premiums with before tax dollars and give us between $300-$820 more per year to pay for medications and other out of pocket expenses. As you know, 88% of federal retirees have a pension of less than $25,000, which is hardly a windfall in today’s economy.

I would also encourage you to support Senate Bill 206, introduced by Senator Feinstein, which is the GPO/WEP (government pension offset and windfall elimination provision) that would repeal the two-third's reduction of both myself and my colleagues' social security payments, to which some/all of us have contributed, because we also paid into and receive federal pension(s).

We would also ask that you support Senate Bill 1254, which will modify the level of exclusion for the neediest of our public servants, those who receive $1,200 per month income.

Thank you for your support!

Dear Senator McCaskill:

As one of your constituents and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal employees Association (NARFE), I want to thank you on behalf of myself and our Chapter members, of which we number 19 members, for cosponsoring legislation beneficial to our continued retirement benefits. An example of this was the "Premium Conversion" legislation last year, and any legislation that in the past has helped current and former public servants and senior citizens in Missouri to retain their retirement benefits.

My colleagues and I urge you again to consider supporting Senate Bill 773, the "Premium Conversion Bill" sponsored by Senator Warner, which would allow retired public servants, including retired military, to enjoy the same benefits as current federal employees and most private sector retirees. It would permit me and my colleagues to pay our health insurance premiums with before tax dollars and give us between $300-$820 more per year to pay for medications and other out of pocket expenses. We would like to have your support for Senate Bill 1254, which will modify the level of exclusion for the neediest of public servants, those who receive $1,200 per month income.

We count on you to fairly balance the social and business needs of this nation.

Thank you for your support!
