Electronics Recycling
Our next event is
scheduled for: May 9, 2009 The Lee’s Summit Chapter of Choose Environmental Excellence, the Surplus
Exchange,
and the Lee’s Summit High School’s DECA chapter are sponsoring this
electronic device (e-waste) recycling event. This event provides
citizens and businesses the opportunity to dispose of their unused or
obsolete computers, cell phones, televisions, and other electronic devices in
a safe and convenient manner. The
following items will be accepted for the following fees:
NOTE:
The recycling costs listed above include transportation to the demanufacturing
facility and recycling. WHY RECYCLE
E-WASTE: Recycling
and reusing electronic equipment reduces the amount of hazardous materials
that may enter the environment including lead, mercury and other toxins.
Recycling e-waste also reduces the quantities of electronic scrap that will
be land filled in our city and region. A typical television or computer
contains four to eight pounds of lead. In 2008, the City of
Lee’s Summit collected more than 130,000 pounds of electronics waste at our
Spring and Fall events! VOLUNTEERS ARE
NEEDED to help unload cars
and direct traffic. In addition, community service hours are available for
students who volunteer. However, court-ordered community service
hours will not be offered for this event. For more
information, contact the Environmental Coordinator at 969-1804 or via email. |
