L: Its like each time you come here, its like youre in the Witness Protection Program [Jude and the audience laugh]. So now its blonde.
J: Its my excuse that in fact Im a character actor. You see, if I change the color of my hair or cut it all off, then I feel like Im a different character.
L: Really so whats the strange thing youve had to do, or the craziest thing youve had to do for a role?
J: Um, well the timethe first time I came on this show, I just finished Road to Perdition and they we had this idea I dont quite know why it came about, but we had this idea to recede my hairline like way back here [he demonstrates this as he explains it], so I had this 9-hour haircut where they kind of took all of this hair off. And thats why when I came on to I didnt want to carry on, you know, grow it out, so I shaved all the rest off. |

L: Right, oh okay.
J: That was that was a little strange. I wore a lot of hats when I was making that film [Jay laughs]. And then they shaved off all my hair on my arms once [starts to stroke his right arm], and theres quite a lot of that, actually [he strokes the hairs on his arm and hand and the audience laughs]. They shaved all that off for A.I.
L: [points to Judes arm] And that was just this morning, look how much its grown back [Jude and the audience laugh]. Thats quite manly, there [Jude mumbles something and continues to lovingly stroke the hair on his hand]. Now how is your friend Ewan McGregor? Hes he and I hes a motorcycle guy too, and hes
J: Yeah, hes just gone around the world.

|
L: Yeah, he called me and he says Im taking my bike around the world and then you get these calls from like Mongolia.
J: [points at Jay] You got those, too [smiles].
L: Yeah, I mean its like
J: Yeah.
L: Three in the morning.
J: [smiling] Yeah, yeah.
L: Hey, great [shrugs as if to say who cares?, and Jude and the audience laugh].
J: He's going from Uzbekistan into Kazakhstan, yeah...Lichestan...
L: He took a year and he just rides his motorcycle around the world.
J: Yeah, I think hes raised a great deal of money as well, and but he didnt have to turn into ZZ Top on the way, did he? [Jay laughs and Jude smiles] Did you see him when he got back?
L: He looks a bit odd. Did you hear from him along the way as well?
J: Yeah, we gotI got a couple of those 3 A.M. phone calls and text, yeah.
L: Just hey, whats going on? Nothing, where are
J: Its pretty extraordinary to do. He put the pressure on me and his other friends to do kind of hugely macho things as well, though I kind of you know, like I said, most macho thing I do is go to the shops, really.
L: Right, just go
J: Walk my dogs [adjusts himself in his seat].
L: And thats pretty macho.
J: [puts on a stern, mock-tough-guy face] Yeah [laughs].
L: Now how was your summer, whatd you do? Did you just work all summer, or did you do something?
J: No, I havent been working for awhile. Um, Ive been taking a break, Ive got a few things [chuckles] coming out, so I sort of put my feet up. What did I do I went camping with my kids
L: Oh, okay. Now how old are the kids? There were
J: Two, four and eight [points downwards as he lists the ages].
L: Two, four and eight, okay
J: Yeah [grins slightly, biting his upper lip].
L: Whered you go camping?
J: WeI went camping in France, my parents have been living in France for 12, 13 years. And theyve actually just bought a new place that theyre renovating; we went camping in the woods near to where they live. Like proper camping, we had fires going
L: Right.
J: Cooking on a fire, washing in buckets of water from the streams [he subtly acts out all the actions as he lists them off], it was really good. |
