As  young  people, at some point of time feel invinsible and like we own the world. Soon enough reality catches up with us and in some cases people end up feeling like worms- useless. We, the young people of today have alot of potential; even the so called "dead duck" does. It's all about what we do with it. Every person is gifted with something . God from the foundation of this world has put His seed in us. This seed is there in the Christian and non-Christian alike. The only difference is you have an eternal link now that causes that seed inside of you to grow. When we accepted Christ, we brought that seed in  us to life. Why then do we see so many Christians living lives like they were born losers?

That question really got me thinking because many of these people were really giants compared to me. How then can something like this happen?  If you notice, most people by the time they hit thrity, slow down into what they label "family life". When we are young, we are all fired up and ready to do great exploits for God, but as time rolls on we tend to lose that fire. WHY? We have people who have strived to see the Kingdom of God advance till the day they died. Today we have a great example in people like Billy Graham, though  really old., is still making an impact. Now that we see that sustained effectiveness is achieveable. Where does that put me? Ask yourself that !

I searched and God showed me a very important key to bearing good fruit for Him. Let me tell you upfront that I'm no wiz and I don't know everything. I'm just sharing what I got. I found an answer in Psalm 1 where the psalmist says "
the one that meditates on Your law day and night is like a tree planted by streams of living water...which yeilds it fruit in season" This means the word of God has something to do with life and growth. You might say- "who doesn't know that?" .Well, how real is it to you then? How often do the things you read in the Bible find application in your life? We are mostly satisfied with what our Pastor says on Sunday and that's it ! When we meditate on God's word we are actually allowing that word to water that seed in our lives; soon making us trees being fed by living water, which then bears it's fruit in season. Everything that has happened or will happen in this universe is sustained by the word of God (Jn 1:1- In the beginning was the word,  the word was with God, and the word was God). We all want to bear fruit, but don't want to be watered by the word. I hope you see how silly we act sometimes.

To consolidate what I have said, let us look at John 15. Here, Jesus talks about Him being the vine and us the branches..."
if you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit". The key is living in Jesus and His words. Now look at the two verses together. One says "meditate" and the other says "abide". Both these words have to do with a prolonged process. Meditating is something like chewing the cud for cows. They eat , swallow, and bring the food up again and again to chew on it . This what we need to do with the Word; read, ponder, re-read, apply, and so on.. Abiding has to do with staying. I hope you get an idea of what God is talking about . He doesn't want Christians who check in and check out. We need to be there permanantly. Now we can say "that's impossible!!" , but this is why our relationship with Jesus is so vital. When you are in a relationship, believe me it's round the clock. You don't suddenly stop bothering about someone you love; do you? It's the same with Jesus, we just have  to treat our relationship with Him as we do our closest friend. Our earthly friends are no comparison to the depths God wants to draw us into Him. God is in the process of making us "complete" in Him. The work done at the cross was final and complete, we are now walking in that assurance towards the complete likeness of Jesus, on that day when we will behold the Lamb of God seated on the throne. Just imagine it! Infact don't try too hard, our minds won't even scratch the surface.

I have shared all this because I personally as a young man face this problem. When it comes to reading the Word, life suddenly becomes boring! But now I  realise the joy in reading the Word (Psalm 19: 7-10). It comes with a lot of benefits !!
I have written this to give you both the truth and a warning. If you are not a person whose life is sustained by the Word, start right away! The effects of a lack of it might not be visible now but a few years down the line, like many others you too will lose steam, and finally give up doing what God has called you to.
Get the standard of God running your life. It works in every area; not just your ministry as a believer. In our relationships as young people, we are likely to go into error. Having the Word of God run our lives keeps us from making foolish decisions. Believe me, the Word of God  is more relevant than any other book you can ever read on anything under the sun.
I'll close with this question- Where are your tree's roots planted ?
Are you planted by streams of living water ? A part of that everlasting vine?
Think about it !!....but also act on it!
thanks for reading.
   WHERE ARE YOUR ROOTS????
